Query by Example Methods for Audio Signals
Proceedings of the 7th Nordic Signal Processing Symposium - NORSIG 2006, 2006Various methods for query by example for audio signals are discussed in this paper. The query by example aims at automatic retrieval of audio excerpts similar to a user-provided audio sample from his/her personal audio database. Methods based on hidden Markov models, feature histograms, and likelihood ratio test are discussed.

A Dissimilarity Measure for Query by Example Retrieval [PDF]
In this paper we present a method for computing the dissimilarity between a digital image and a sketch produced with a simple paint tool. Images are roughly segmented and region information (size, position, color and shape) is extracted. Multiple segmentation results are then obtained by iteratively merging pairs of regions.

XML is a widely used general-purpose annotation formalism for creating custom markup languages. XML annotations give structure to plain documents to interpret their content. To extract information from XML documents XPath and XQuery languages can be used. However, the learning of these dialects requires a considerable effort.

A visual query by example system for digital documents
IEEE Symposium on Human Centric Computing Languages and Environments, 2003. Proceedings. 2003, 2004The decreasing cost and the increasing availability of new technologies is enabling people to create their own digital libraries. One of the main topic in personal digital libraries is allowing people to select interesting information among all the different digital formats available today (pdf, html, tiff,...).

Color co-occurrence descriptors for querying-by-example
Proceedings 1998 MultiMedia Modeling. MMM'98 (Cat. No.98EX200), 1998Multimedia documents are different from traditional text documents, because they may contain encodings of raw sensorical data. This fact has severe consequences for the efficient indexing and retrieval of information from documents in large unstructured collections (e.g. WWW), because it is very difficult to automatically identify generic meanings from

Query by example keyword spotting in streams of audio
2015 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC), 2015Finding occurrences of utterances whether are single words or phrases in streams of audio is very useful for fast retrieval of audio files as in querying by content in big collection of audio files. I is also useful for monitoring audio signals for security reasons for example searching for alert signals in the fight against terrorism.

Query-by-Example: A data base language
IBM Systems Journal, 1977Discussed is a high-level data base management language that provides the user with a convenient and unified interface to query, update, define, and control a data base. When the user performs an operation against the data base, he fills in an example of a solution to that operation in skeleton tables that can be associated with actual tables in the

Haruspex: an image database system for query-by-examples
Proceedings 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition. ICPR-2000, 2002Describes a color-based approach to effectively resolve query-by-examples in an image database. We present a prototype database system designed to store and query a collection of ceramics. Our case study is a database of images representing ceramics from the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza.

Distortion-Aware Query-by-Example for Environmental Sounds
2007 IEEE Workshop on Applications of Signal Processing to Audio and Acoustics, 2007There has been much recent progress in the technical infrastructure necessary to continuously characterize and archive all sounds that occur within a given space or human life. Efficient and intuitive access, however, remains a considerable challenge.
