Elements of queuing theory for system design

IBM Systems Journal, 1975
Reviewed are fundamental principles of queuing in terms that apply to computing systems. After laying a foundation of a minimum number of definitions the author provides a working familiarity with extended principles and application to system performance estimation through the use of worked out examples.

Queuing Theory and Simulation in Reservoir Design

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1961
Theory of queues, or waiting lines, and Monte Carlo techniques are applied to problem of selecting optimal design of multi-purpose reservoir; simulation of reservoir system response to hydrologic inflows is performed on large scale electronic digital computer; statistical theory, especially theory of bivariate regression, plays large role in this study.

Fuzzy Queuing Theory

2003
In this chapter we apply the results in Chapter 4 on fuzzy finite, regular, Markov chains to fuzzy queuing theory. The crisp system is as explained in Chapter 4: c parallel, independent, and identical servers, M ≥ c is system capacity (M — c maximum queue size), and a calling source so large that we may approximate it as an infinite calling source.

Basic Queuing Theory

2014
In this chapter we introduce basic elements from queuing theory. This chapter is written for those with a deeper (theoretical) interest in queuing theory. The reader can also skip this part and use it for reference purposes only.

Queuing theory and reference transactions

Reference Services Review, 1995
For the past ten years or so, librarians have been discussing the way reference service is provided, the most conspicuous recent installments being the “Re‐thinking Reference in Academic Libraries” conference and the widely publicized changes at Brandeis University.

Queuing Theory and Water Storage

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1958
Method for determining amount of holdover storage for regulating stream flow; derivation of expression for case where discharge varies linearly with reservoir contents; use of queuing analogy to generalize solution by probability routing; effect of sequential correlation.

Markov Chains and Queuing Theory

2014
Telecommunication systems are characterized by the transmission of data on wired or wireless links. In these cases, we have that different “messages” contend for the use of the same transmission resources. Typical examples can be as follows:
