Heme-binding enables allosteric modulation in an ancient TIM-barrel glycosidase

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Family 1 glycosidases (GH1) are present in the three domains of life and share classical TIM-barrel fold. Structural and biochemical analyses of a resurrected ancestral GH1 enzyme reveal heme binding, not known in its modern descendants.

Wood capillarity and deacetylation during eucalyptus alkaline impregnation. Suphidity effects and comparison between transverse directions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The relative ion transport capacity of wood, i.e., the Effective Capillary Cross Sectional Area (ECCSA), is determined in this work based on the analogy with the relation between the electrical conductivities of wood and liquid medium.

Elucidating the Role of Surface Ligands on the Oxidative Etching of Au Bipyramids During Photothermia Using Liquid Cell Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...

Interactions between cationic liposomes and an antigenic protein: the physical chemistry of the immunoadjuvant action

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1997
The 18 kDa antigenic protein from Mycobacterium leprae (P) or its N-acyl derivative (AP) was incorporated in dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DODAB) liposomes in water or in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). In water, 100﹪ P incorporation in liposomes

Update on the fluorometric measurement of enzymatic activities for Lysosomal Storage Disorder detection: The example of MPS VI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Lysosomal Storage Disorders (LSD) are rare diseases that as a whole havea combined incidence ranging from 1:1500 to 1:7000 live births. One of suchdiseases is Mucopolysaccharidosis VI (MPS VI), or Maroteaux Lamy Syndrome.MPS VI patients undergo ...

Dielectric and dynamic mechanical study of the mobility of poly(t-butylacrylate) chains in diblock copolymers: polystyrene-b-poly(t-butylacrylate) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A calorimetric, dielectric and dynamic-mechanical study of the dynamics of the poly(t-butyl acrylate) (PtBa) chains has been carried out in a PtBa homopolymer and two polystyrene (PS)-b-PtBa block copolymers with different PtBa chain lengths.

X‐Functionality–Driven Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a water‐based synthesis of 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 perovskite microcrystals with prominent photocatalytic (PC) activity for H2 production. The synergy between organic functionalization and HI‐derived iodide scavenges holes suppress octahedral distortion, and favor electron accumulation, enabling a PC H2 evolution ∼20 µmol·g−1 and long‐term stability ...
