Alignment and algebraically special tensors in Lorentzian geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We develop a dimension-independent theory of alignment in Lorentzian geometry, and apply it to the tensor classification problem for the Weyl and Ricci tensors. First, we show that the alignment condition is equivalent to the PND equation.

Pathway to Independence Awards (K99/R00): Funding Dynamics and Prediction of Future National Institutes of Health Research Project Funding

open access: yesAcademic Medicine, 2023
Abstract Purpose The authors used the National Institutes of Health (NIH) RePORTER (Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tools) to evaluate funding trends and historic NIH investment increase in the K99 award pathway and examine whether R00 to R01 or R21 achievement time correlated with the future success of an early ...

Oogenesis and germinal bed morphology of the brown anole (A. sagrei)

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The brown anole is a model species of the genus Anolis, a squamate (encompassing lizards and snakes) group widely studied in evolutionary, behavioral, and developmental biology. Full genome annotation, the establishment of gene editing techniques, and comprehensive description of reproductive tract morphology and embryogenesis in ...

Excellent Ultracold Molecular Candidates From Group VA Hydrides: Whether Do Nearby Electronic States Interfere?

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2021
By means of highly accurate ab initio calculations, we identify two excellent ultracold molecular candidates from group VA hydrides. We find that NH and PH are suitable for the production of ultracold molecules, and the feasibility and advantage of two ...

Brownian Web and Oriented Percolation: Density Bounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In a recent work, we proved that under diffusive scaling, the collection of rightmost infinite open paths in a supercritical oriented percolation configuration on the space-time lattice Z^2 converges in distribution to the Brownian web.

Magnetar Giant Flares in Multipolar Magnetic Fields --- II. Flux Rope Eruptions With Current Sheets

open access: yes, 2014
We propose a physical mechanism to explain giant flares and radio afterglows in terms of a magnetospheric model containing both a helically twisted flux rope and a current sheet (CS).

Single‐Particle Characterization Reveals Heterogeneous Extracellular Vesicle Fusion with Liposomes

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
This study used five orthogonal single‐particle techniques to compare how common mechanical methods fuse extracellular vesicles with liposomes. By quantifying fused‐particle yield, purity, and vesicle integrity, we found that freeze‐thaw and sonication generated the highest fusion but that all methods introduced membrane perturbation or damage.

The Weight Distributions of a Class of Cyclic Codes with Three Nonzeros over F3

open access: yes, 2013
Cyclic codes have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. The decoding error probability and the undetected error probability are usually bounded by or given from the weight distributions of the codes.
