Biomanufacturing Potential of Streamlined Cells
ABSTRACT A series of Escherichia coli streamlined strains was developed by removing the expression of genes encoding extracellular structures and unessential enzymes. The streamlined strains exhibited improved metabolic performance, including lower overflow metabolism and ATP maintenance coefficient, as well as a higher growth rate, compared to their ...

Photoluminescence from Defects in Be‐Doped GaN
A blue photoluminescence band (labeled BLBe) with a maximum at 2.6 eV and a lifetime of 0.8 μs is observed in Be‐doped GaN samples. It is preliminarily attributed to electron transitions via the 0/+ thermodynamic transition level of the BeGa defect located at 0.15±0.05 eV above the valence band.

Oleaginous yeasts from Antarctica: Screening and preliminary approach on lipid accumulation
The capability of 17 Rhodotorula spp. isolated from Antarctica to accumulate intracellular lipids in nitrogen‐limited medium was investigated. As results, 10 isolates were selected by Nile red staining, while 12 isolates were selected as oleaginous by ...

In Vivo Online Monitoring of Intracellular Lipid Accumulation in Ustilago maydis
ABSTRACT Single cell oils produced in microorganisms constitute appealing alternatives to plant oils. Oleaginous fungi accumulate triacylglycerols in lipid droplets (LD). Their biosynthesis is typically induced under nitrogen limitation. We exploit the fungal model Ustilago maydis for oil production.
