Medium-term cryopreservation of rabies virus samples

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2013
Introduction The cryopreservation of rabies virus has been described in detail in the literature. To date, little information is available on the use of cryoprotective agents for cold preservation of this virus, and the available data focus only on short-

Lyophilisation of influenza, rabies and Marburg lentiviral pseudotype viruses for the development and distribution of a neutralisation-assay based diagnostic kit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pseudotype viruses (PVs) are chimeric, replication-deficient virions that mimic wild-type virus entry mechanisms and can be safely employed in neutralisation assays, bypassing the need for high biosafety requirements and performing comparably to ...

Cultivation of Rabies Virus.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1937
Webster and Clow1 and Kanazawa2 reported the first success in cultivating rabies virus. The former accomplished this with a medium consisting of Tyrode solution containing normal monkey serum and minced mouse embryo brain, while the latter propagated the virus in Tyrode solution in the presence of rabbit embryo brain tissue, but without the addition of

Perceived Threat of Zoonotic Infections in Abattoir Workers in the Tamale Metropolis of Ghana: An Assessment of Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 4, Issue 2, June 2025.
Most abattoir workers (90.2%) knew that humans can get zoonotic diseases from the animals they handle. However, some respondents believe that witchcraft (20.0%), curses (20.8%) and supernatural powers (18.0%) cause zoonotic diseases. ABSTRACT Background Abattoir workers are more prone to acquiring zoonotic diseases.

The Lipid Composition of Rabies Virus

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 1973
The lipid composition of the Flury HEP strain of rabies virus grown in BHK 21/C 13 cells was determined. The dried purified virus preparation contains 5.5 % neutral and 19.5 % polar lipids. Cholesterol was found to be the major neutral lipid. Phopholipids constitute 11.2 %; and glycolipids represent 4.6 % of the virus mass.

Review on the o‐Aminoaniline Moiety in Peptide and Protein Chemistry

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 9, May 5, 2025.
The ability to prepare functional peptides and protein molecules is essential to understand fundamental biological processes and develop novel therapeutics for numerous diseases. In this review, Hong et al. document the development of o‐aminoaniline derivatives for chemical protein synthesis, peptide C‐terminus diversification, and cyclic peptide ...

APRIL:TACI axis is dispensable for the immune response to rabies vaccination. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There is significant need to develop a single-dose rabies vaccine to replace the current multi-dose rabies vaccine regimen and eliminate the requirement for rabies immune globulin in post-exposure settings.

Vulture Exclusion Halves Large Carcass Decomposition Rates and Doubles Fly Abundance

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
We experimentally excluded vultures from pig carcasses (Sus scrofa) in Costa Rica, under different habitats and across seasons with the aim to assess the impact of vulture population decline on carrion decomposition and insect abundance. Vulture exclusion halved carcass decomposition rates and doubled fly abundance, while dung beetle abundance remained

A Touch of Sleep: Biophysical Model of Contact-mediated Dormancy of Archaea by Viruses [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
The canonical view of the interactions between viruses and their microbial hosts presumes that changes in host and virus fate require the initiation of infection of a host by a virus. That is, first virus particles diffuse randomly outside of host cells, then the virus genome enters the target host cell, and only then do intracellular dynamics and ...
