Noncontact Casimir rack and pinion as an excitable system

Applied Physics Letters, 2015
We study the influence of thermal noise on the rack and pinion coupled by the lateral Casimir force. The pinion position versus time exhibits a sequence of spikes. We identify the Casimir machine as an excitable system equivalent to the Adler system. We show that the interspike time distribution can be analyzed to access the Casimir and friction forces.

The Rack-Pinion Gearing for High Order of Contact

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
After an extensive research on the fundamental theory, the theoretical basis for the gearing with equal conjugate curvature is presented in this paper. This includes the theory for gear meshing with high oder of contact. In comparison to previous studies, the theory of this paper is more restricted going beyond third order parameters into the fourth ...

RACK-AND-PINION STEERING SYSTEM FOR MOTOR VEHICLES

2003
The invention relates to a rack-and-pinion steering system (1) for motor vehicles. Said steering system comprises a steering rack (12) which is mounted in a housing (8) in such a way that it can be displaced in a longitudinal manner and is continuously engaged with a pinion (9) by means of a pressure piece (13).
