Frozen Differential Scattering in Reconfigurable Complex Media

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A localized perturbation universally results in a rank‐one update of the scattering matrix of any complex medium. The resulting differential output wavefront is “frozen”: its spatial pattern is fixed (agnostic to the input wavefront). Experiments with a programmable‐metasurface‐parametrized wireless link validate frozen differential scattering and ...

Assessing wildfire dynamics during a megafire in Portugal using the MesoNH/ForeFire coupled model

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Weather conditions affect megafires by inducing different fire behaviors over several days or weeks. The coupled MesoNH/ForeFire code was used to represent the dynamics of fire generating pyro‐convective clouds. To advance the understanding of wildfire dynamics, high‐resolution coupled fire–atmosphere modeling was employed.

Subspace Compressive GLRT Detector for MIMO Radar in the Presence of Clutter

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2015
The problem of optimising the target detection performance of MIMO radar in the presence of clutter is considered. The increased false alarm rate which is a consequence of the presence of clutter returns is known to seriously degrade the target detection

Polarisation-space-time adaptive processing for heterogeneous clutter suppression of airborne-phased array radar

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Conventional space-time adaptive processing (STAP) achieves clutter suppression by combining spatial signals and the temporal pulses. However, extreme slow-moving target cannot be effectively detected by space-time joint filtering in ambiguous and non ...

MIMO Radar Waveform Optimization With Prior Information of the Extended Target and Clutter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The concept of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar allows each transmitting antenna element to transmit an arbitrary waveform. This provides extra degrees of freedom compared to the traditional transmit beamforming approach.

Machine‐learning approaches for characterizing the raindrop size distributions in Western Pacific tropical cyclones

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Long‐term disdrometer observations are utilized to derive Z–R relationships for ‐the Western Pacific tropical cyclones. A hybrid moment‐based approach is employed to determine the interrelationships among pairs of gamma distribution parameters. Enhanced estimates of rainfall rate and slope parameter are obtained using machine‐learning techniques ...

Doppler polarimetric ground clutter identification and suppression for atmospheric radars based on co-polar correlation

open access: yesJournal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2001
A new clutter suppression technique that uses both Doppler and polarimetric information is presented. Polarimetric properties of the target and clutter are calculated per Doppler frequency cell and based on this information clutter suppression is ...

Mesoscale and microphysical processes leading to extreme hourly rainfall prior to the merger of two mesoscale convective systems in Central China

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Short‐term extreme rainfall can be produced by the variation of low‐level warm moist airflow during mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) approaching another. The cold outflow of the rapidly moving MCS intensifies the warm moist airflow in front, enhancing the convergence and ascending motion in the quasi‐stationary MCS.

Clutter Suppression Performance Analysis of Spaceborne Bistatic Radar Systems Based on a Semiempirical Bistatic Clutter Scattering Coefficient Model

open access: yesLeida xuebao
Conventional spaceborne monostatic radar systems incur huge engineering costs to achieve small moving-target detection and low anti-interference ability.

First-order Sea Clutter Modeling and Simulation of High Frequency Passive Radar

open access: yesLeida xuebao, 2015
High Frequency (HF) passive radar is a typical bistatic radar, and the modeling and simulation of sea clutter in bistatic radar are worth researching for HF passive radar.
