Radar echoes from the martian satellite Phobos provide information about that object's surface properties at scales near the 3.5-cm observing wavelength. Phobos appears less rough than the moon at centimeter-to-decimeter scales. The uppermost few decimeters of the satellite's regolith have a mean bulk density within 20% of 2.0 g cm

Radar Tomography For Cavities Detection
9th EEGS Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems, 1996Preliminary tests on laboratory models have enabled us to provide some guidelines for traveltime ray tomography with GPR applied to civil engineering problems, specifically to find voids in pillars, walls and structures. The width of the Fresnel zone and the source and receiver locations are the limits to resolution capability. For crosshole geometry a

Challenges in detecting UAS with radar
2017 International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology (ICCST), 2017The recent proliferation of drones has contributed to the emergence of new threats in security applications. Because of their great agility and small size, UAS can be used for numerous missions and are very challenging to detect. Radar technology with its all-weather capability can play an important role in detecting UAS-based threats and in protecting

RADAR DETECTION OF PRECIPITATiON
Journal of Meteorology, 1946Abstract Detection of precipitation by radar is possible because of the scattering of high-frequency radio waves by precipitation forms. Radar echoes being thus directly related to precipitation may be classified in a simple manner according to meteorological origin.

Multiresolution detection of coherent radar targets
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1997We develop and investigate several novel multiresolution algorithms for detecting coherent radar targets embedded in clutter. These multiresolution detectors exploit the fact that prominent target scatterers interfere in a characteristic manner as resolution is changed, while multiresolution clutter signatures are random. We show, both on simulated and

This paper is an attempt to present a short, unified discussion of the radar detection, parameter estimation, and multiple-signal resolution problems--mostly from a philosophical rather than a detailed mathematical point of view. The purpose is, hopefully, to make it possible in at least some limited sense to reason back from appropriate measures of ...

An analysis of the detection of radar targets in multipath environments is presented. Radar targets often undergo enhancements or fades due to multipath where the direct-path energy combines with a phase-shifted reflection to enhance or reduce the received energy. This phenomenon is a function of frequency.

PERMISSION has now been obtained to publish the fact that birds can reflect radio waves with sufficient strength to be detected by radar sets. Evidence of this was given to us in the summer of 1941 by Dr. E. S. Shire, then developing centimetric radar equipment at the Air Defence Research and Development, Establishment, Ministry of Supply. Confirmation

The potential applicability of multiple-channel coherence estimation in situations where one channel contains a noise-free signal replica (as in active radar) or a high-SNR reference signal (as in passive coherent radar) has been proposed in recent work.
