Hybrid polarimetry inverse synthetic aperture radar [PDF]

open access: goldIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation
The inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) system exploits the movement of the target to form its high‐resolution image. Further, the multi‐polarisation acquisition in ISAR collects additional information on the target's scattering properties and ...

Radar Polarimetry in Glaciology: Theory, Measurement Techniques, and Scientific Applications for Investigating the Anisotropy of Ice Masses

open access: greenReviews of Geophysics, Volume 63, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Dielectric anisotropy in ice alters the propagation of polarized radio waves, so polarimetric radar sounding can be used to survey anisotropic properties of ice masses. Ice anisotropy is either intrinsic, associated with ice‐crystal orientation fabric (COF), or extrinsic, associated with material heterogeneity, such as bubbles, fractures, and ...

Polarimetric Wide‐Angle Radar Detects Competing Signatures of Ice Fabric and Structural Firn Anisotropy

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Ice is mechanically and dielectrically anisotropic. The degree of anisotropy evolves dynamically as ice crystals align during deformation into macroscopic patterns termed ice fabric.

Space-borne polarimetric SAR sensors or the golden age of radar polarimetry [PDF]

open access: diamondEPJ Web of Conferences, 2010
SAR Polarimetry represents an active area of research in Active Earth Remote Sensing. This interest is clearly supported by the fact that nowadays there exists, or there will exist in a very next future, a non negligible quantity of launched ...

Polarimetry for Sparse Multistatic 3D SAR

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation
There is significant interest in multistatic SAR image formation, due to the increased development of satellite constellations and UAV swarms for remote sensing applications. The exploitation of the finer resolution and wider coverage of these geometries

Imaging radar polarimetry from wave synthesis [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1987
An imaging radar polarimeter measures the dependence of radar backscatter intensity and relative phase as a function of both the transmitted and received wave polarization states. We have built such an instrument by adding a dual‐polarized antenna and a four‐channel data system to a conventional airborne synthetic aperture radar system.

Exploiting radar polarimetry for nowcasting thunderstorm hazards using deep learning [PDF]

open access: goldNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
This work presents the importance of polarimetric variables as an additional data source for nowcasting thunderstorm hazards using an existing neural network architecture with recurrent-convolutional layers.
