HF over-the-horizon radars often use CW transmissions comprising repeated linear FM sweeps. The resolution and sidelobe performance in the range dimension are determined within each sweep, but Doppler information is extracted by processing together the outputs of a number of sweeps.

In this chapter, we review various probing waveform transmission schemes for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar with co-located antennas. An orthogonal probing waveform set is required to separate the transmitted waveforms at the receiver side to achieve a large virtual array size afforded by the MIMO radar.

Radar waveform for automotive radar systems and applications
2008 IEEE Radar Conference, 2008This paper describes three different continuous wave (CW) radar waveforms which are applied in automotive radar sensors. The radar sensor should be able to detect all objects inside the observation area and to estimate range, radial velocity and azimuth angle simultaneously even in multi target situations.

Radar waveform synthesis method--A new radar detection scheme
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1980A new scheme for radar detection and discrimination, the radar waveform synthesis method, is investigated. This scheme consists of synthesizing the waveform of an incident radar signal which excites the target in such a way that the return radar signal from the target contains only a single natural resonance mode of the target.
