On the Bivariate Nakagami-Lognormal Distribution and Its Correlation Properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2014
The bivariate Nakagami-lognormal distribution used to model the composite fast fading and shadowing has been examined exhaustively. In particular, we have derived the joint probability density function, the cross-moments, and the correlation coefficient ...

Fading Evaluation in the 60 GHz Band in Line-of-Sight Conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2014
An exhaustive analysis of the small-scale fading amplitude in the 60 GHz band is addressed for line-of-sight conditions (LOS). From a measurement campaign carried out in a laboratory, we have estimated the distribution of the small-scale fading amplitude

A Study of Elemental Composition and Risk Assessment Due to Exposure to Indoor PM10 in Two Residences in Mexico City

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
Samples of airborne particles with aerodynamic diameters smaller than 10 µm (PM10) were collected in 2021 at two households in the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City. Both sites are in areas with different characteristics (residential or industrial zones).

Interplay of diet and sympatry in the morphological evolution of noctilionoid bats

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 50, Issue 12, Page 2084-2094, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Aim The remarkable ecomorphological diversity of the bat superfamily Noctilionoidea is the result of a diet‐mediated adaptive radiation. Stemming from a putatively insectivorous ancestor, noctilionoid bats diversified to adapt to the widest range of dietary ecologies among mammals.

A comparison of methods for excluding light from stems to evaluate stem photosynthesis

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 11, Issue 6, November-December 2023., 2023
Abstract Premise A comparison of methods using different materials to exclude light from stems to prevent stem CO2 exchange (i.e., photosynthesis), without affecting stem conductance to water vapor, surface temperature, and relative humidity, was conducted on stems of avocado trees in California.

Repeated asynchronous evolution of single‐species endemics of ivies (Hedera L.) in Macaronesian archipelagos

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 50, Issue 10, Page 1763-1777, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Aim Evolutionary studies of oceanic island endemics are usually focused on lineages that have experienced in situ radiation, while those that speciated once on the island or archipelago but have not further diversified (single‐species endemics) remain understudied.

Reduction of energy losses through the integration of photovoltaic power plants in distribution networks

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 17, Issue 16, Page 3739-3750, August 2023., 2023
This paper presents a novel method to locate and size photovoltaic (PV) power plants in distribution networks. The method uses two objective functions and one of them uses a fixed voltage profile that allows reducing the execution times of the algorithm. This method turned out to be efficient when compared with other optimization algorithms.

Posttraumatic stress response following the loss of significant close others in the Great East Japan Earthquake: Fukushima Health Management Survey

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 129-143, February 2023., 2023
Abstract During the Great East Japan Earthquake, many people experienced the loss of family and friends, among other traumatic events. This study sought to clarify the impact of the loss of significant close others on posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), as well as the factors associated with PTSS, among individuals who experienced the loss of ...

Taxon‐specific or universal? Using target capture to study the evolutionary history of rapid radiations

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 22, Issue 3, Page 927-945, April 2022., 2022
Abstract Target capture has emerged as an important tool for phylogenetics and population genetics in nonmodel taxa. Whereas developing taxon‐specific capture probes requires sustained efforts, available universal kits may have a lower power to reconstruct relationships at shallow phylogenetic scales and within rapidly radiating clades. We present here
