Abstract The design of high-performance small-scale Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems is heavily dependent on optimizing major power plant components. In Radial Outflow Turbines (ROT) greater efficiency is achieved by increasing the rotation speed and decreasing sealing losses by reducing the clearance of labyrinth seals.

Abstract Radial outflow turbines are an alternative for axial turbines for example in heat recovery applications. They are, however, also often characterized by ultra-low aspect ratios. In these designs, the secondary losses dominate the overall loss share, and under a certain aspect ratio, the secondary structures from the hub and ...

In this study, blade tip leakages were calculated for a Radial Outflow Turbine (ROT) designed for an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) at a 150kW power output. Since the turbine blade sizes are relatively very small for low-capacity systems, the leakages through the blade tip clearances considerably affect the turbine isentropic efficiency.

Abstract The radial outflow liquid turbine expander (LTEROF) draws increasing attention for enhancing the efficiency of the liquid CO2 energy storage (LCES) system. However, the detrimental cavitation deteriorates the flow behavior, which demands an in-depth study of the flow physics and then effective attenuation.
