On compressive radial tidal forces

open access: yes, 2007
Radial tidal forces can be compressive instead of disruptive, a possibility that is frequently overlooked in high level physics courses. For example, radial tidal compression can emerge in extended stellar systems containing a smaller stellar cluster ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

An efficient method to include equality constraints in branch current distribution system state estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Distribution system state estimation is a fundamental tool for the management and control functions envisaged for future distribution grids. The design of accurate and efficient algorithms is essential to provide estimates compliant with the needed ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Power Loss Minimization in Radial Distribution System

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2015
AbstractNowadays the number of consumers in the distribution system is increasing, the electricity demand and the number of capacitor bank placement is also increasing. Improper placement of capacitor bank leads to decrease the benefits of the system.

Radial Distribution System Reconfiguration in the Presence of Distributed Generators [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2015 4th International Conference on Computer, Mechatronics, Control and Electronic Engineering, 2015
A distribution network reconfiguration model with wind power generators is proposed, and an improved genetic algorithm is applied to minimize active power loss. Forward and backward sweep approach is adopted to calculate the power flow. In addition, the strategy of searching random spanning trees is used to ensure the radial structure of network in the

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

A Reliable Load Flow Method for Radial Distribution Systems

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2012
This paper presents a reliable load flow algorithm for radial distribution systems. The proposed algorithm exploits the particular topological structure of the radial distribution system. A system of algebraic equations which describe the steady state

Optimal capacitor placement in radial distribution systems using flower pollination algorithm

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2018
In this paper, a new metaheuristic algorithm that mimics the pollination process of flowers and is known as the flower pollination algorithm (FPA) has been proposed for the solution of the optimal capacitor placement (OCP) problem in a radial ...

Exotic populations in Globular Clusters: Blue Stragglers as tracers of the internal dynamical evolution of stellar systems

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper I present an overview of the main observational properties of a special class of exotic objects (the so-called Blue Straggler Stars, BSSs) in Galactic Globular Clusters (GCs).
