Preloaded latching device [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
A latching device is disclosed which is lever operated sequentially to actuate a set of collet fingers to provide a radial expansion and to actuate a force mechanism to provide a compressive gripping force for attaching first and second devices to one ...

Density Profile Asymptotes at the Centre of Dark Matter Halos

open access: yes, 2003
For the spherical symmetric case, all quantities describing the relaxed dark matter halo can be expressed as functions of the gravitational potential $\Phi$.

Vibration analysis of a permanent magnet synchronous motor by a pole/slot combination

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
A sixteen-pole eighteen-slot (16p/18s) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) developed in Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) for a vertical articulated robot is chosen as a reference model, and other two pole/slot combinations (20p/18s,

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Entropic forces in Brownian motion

open access: yes, 2014
The interest in the concept of entropic forces has risen considerably since E. Verlinde proposed to interpret the force in Newton s second law and Gravity as entropic forces [1].

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Numerical and experimental studies on flow performances and hydraulic radial forces of an internal gear pump with a high pressure

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2019
Unbalanced radial force is one of the most urgent issues for internal gear pumps (IGPs) working at high working pressures. A numerical model for the prediction of the unbalanced radial force is essential for the structural design of gear pumps, facing ...

Constructing smooth potentials of mean force, radial, distribution functions and probability densities from sampled data

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper a method of obtaining smooth analytical estimates of probability densities, radial distribution functions and potentials of mean force from sampled data in a statistically controlled fashion is presented.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

A fully relativistic radial fall

open access: yes, 2014
Radial fall has historically played a momentous role. It is one of the most classical problems, the solutions of which represent the level of understanding of gravitation in a given epoch.
