Radially Polarized Optical Tweezers
Optics in the Life Sciences, 2011We present experimental measurements of the spring constants of a radially polarized optical tweezer for a wide range of micro- and nano-particles and compare the results to those obtained using linearly- and circularly-polarized trapping beams.

Production of radially and azimuthally polarized polychromatic beams
Optics Letters, 2006We describe a system that efficiently provides radially or azimuthally polarized radiation from a randomly polarized source. It is constructed from two conical reflectors and a cylindrical sheet of polarizing film. Envisaged applications include a microscope illuminator for high-resolution surface plasmon resonance microscopy, illumination for high ...

A linearly-polarized radial line slot antenna
1988 IEEE AP-S. International Symposium, Antennas and Propagation, 1988A design for linearly polarized radial line slot antenna (RLSA) is proposed. A novel slot arrangement is presented which couples to the rotationally symmetric guided waves to produce a uniform aperture distribution with linear polarization. Basic characteristics were measured in the 12-GHz band on a model antenna.

Radially polarized mode-locked Nd:YAG laser
Optics Letters, 2009We demonstrate a Nd:YAG laser emitting radially polarized, mode-locked 140 ps long pulses by exploiting the thermally induced birefringence of a Nd:YAG crystal. The laser repetition rate is 82 MHz, the maximum average output power is 3 W, and the beam quality is close to the theoretical value of M2=2.

Generation of a high-power radially polarized beam
SPIE Proceedings, 1999Radially polarized radiation 1.8 kW was first obtained in an industrial high-power CO 2 -laser. Special reflective elements with axial polarization selectivity 22% were used as rear mirror in the laser. The output radiation consisted mainly of an unpolarized mode TEM00 and a radially polarized mode R-TEM01*.

On the wavefront spacing of focused, radially polarized beams
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2005We analyze the phase behavior of strongly focused, radially polarized electromagnetic fields. It is shown that, under certain circumstances, the spacing between successive wavefronts can be either greater or smaller than that of a plane wave of the same frequency.

Radially and azimuthally polarized vortices in uniaxial crystals
Optics Communications, 2003The propagation of the radial and azimuthal components of a paraxial beam along the optical axis of a uniaxially anisotropic crystal is investigated, deriving the paraxial wave equations and solving the associated boundary value problem. As a particular case, we obtain the propagation equations of optical vortices and give an integral representation of

Diffractive superresolution elements for radially polarized light
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2010An optimization method for diffractive superresolution elements (DSEs) for radially polarized light is proposed. Only the longitudinal component of the focused field of radially polarized light is considered for optimization, and the results are 0, pi two-phase distributed DSEs.

Probing ultrafast phenomena with radially polarized light
Applied Optics, 2016A new modality for probing ultrafast phenomena that relies on radially or azimuthally polarized probe pulses is presented. First, we describe the principle and then theoretically analyze the signals expected for different types of pump-induced nonlinearities. Last, we experimentally verify the methodology by probing a pump-induced Kerr gate with a time-

Azimuthally and radially polarized light in conical diffraction
Optics Letters, 2014Azimuthal and radial polarization states of light are used to produce conical diffraction (CD) from a KGd(WO4)2 crystal. The patterns produced in the ring plane in each case display marked differences than those seen when linearly polarized incident light is used, with the production of a splitting of the CD ring into two concentric rings of equal ...
