Radial solutions for fully nonlinear elliptic equations of Monge–Ampère type

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2021
First, the symmetry of classical solutions to the Monge–Ampère-type equations is obtained by the moving plane method. Then, the existence and nonexistence of radial solutions in a ball are got from the symmetry results.

The Spherical Harmonic Family of Beampatterns

open access: yesAcoustics, 2022
The free space solution to the wave equation in spherical coordinates is well known as a separable product of functions. Re-examination of these functions, particularly the sums of spherical Bessel and harmonic functions, reveals behaviors which can ...

Small energy scattering for the Zakharov system with radial symmetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We prove small energy scattering for the 3D Zakharov system with radial symmetry. The main ingredients are normal form reduction and the radial-improved Strichartz estimates.Comment: 11 pages, corrected minor errors, published online in IMRN.

Photoconductive terahertz antenna with radial symmetry

open access: yesOptical Terahertz Science and Technology, 2005
The use of coaxial waveguides with terahertz pulses requires the difficult excitation of the radially polarized fundamental mode of the waveguide. We propose a radially symmetric terahertz antenna and present simulations predicting the generation of a radially polarized beam.

Fast radial symmetry detection under affine transformations [PDF]

open access: yes2012 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2012
The fast radial symmetry (FRS) transform has been very popular for detecting interest points based on local radial symmetry1. Although FRS delivers good performance at a relatively low computational cost and is very well suited for a variety of real-time computer vision applications, it is not invariant to perspective distortions.

Isospin dependence of nucleon emission and radial flow in heavy-ion collisions induced by high energy radioactive beams

open access: yes, 2004
Using an isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model we study the emission of free nucleons and the nuclear radial flow in central heavy-ion collisions induced by high energy radioactive beams.

Weighted fast diffusion equations (Part I): Sharp asymptotic rates without symmetry and symmetry breaking in Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we consider a family of Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg interpolation inequalities (CKN), with two radial power law weights and exponents in a subcritical range.

Multivariate radial symmetry of copula functions: finite sample comparison in the i.i.d case

open access: yesDependence Modeling, 2021
Given a d-dimensional random vector X = (X1, . . ., Xd), if the standard uniform vector U obtained by the component-wise probability integral transform (PIT) of X has the same distribution of its point reflection through the center of the unit hypercube,

The flight of the bumblebee: vacuum solutions of a gravity model with vector-induced spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking

open access: yes, 2005
We study the vacuum solutions of a gravity model where Lorentz symmetry is spontaneously broken once a vector field acquires a vacuum expectation value. Results are presented for the purely radial Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB), radial/temporal LSB and ...

The manoeuvrability hypothesis to explain the maintenance of bilateral symmetry in animal evolution

open access: yesBiology Direct, 2012
Background The overwhelming majority of animal species exhibit bilateral symmetry. However, the precise evolutionary importance of bilateral symmetry is unknown, although elements of the understanding of the phenomenon have been present within the ...
