Radial-turbine mistuning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
One of the common failure modes of the diesel engine turbochargers is high-cycle fatigue of the turbine-wheel blades. Mistuning of the blades due to the casting process is believed to contribute to this failure mode. A laser vibrometer is used to characterize mistuning for a population of turbine wheels through the analysis of the blade-response to ...

The Design of a Radial Turbine for Microgasturbine Applications

Volume 1: Fora, Parts A, B, C, and D, 2003
An automatic software procedure, previously developed by the authors, is used for the design of a radial inflow turbine for microgasturbine applications. The procedure is formed by algorithms of different complexity levels ranging from the meanline one-dimensional design tool to the fully three-dimensional Navier-Stokes based analysis.

Radial Inflow Turbine Study

1991
Abstract : Small radial inflow turbines have various applications in industry and are successfully being used as a major component of gas turbines and turbochargers. The performance of the turbine is of great importance for the success of these systems.

Condensation in Radial Turbines—Part II: Application of the Mathematical Model to a Radial Turbine Series

Journal of Turbomachinery, 2018
In the second part of this two part paper, the condensation process and the movement of the liquid phase near the impeller blades of a radial turbine are studied. The investigation methodology presented in part 1 is applied to a radial turbine type series used for waste heat recovery.

The Radial Flow Turbine

1982
There are two basic types of turbine suitable and used at present in turbochargers, the radial flow and the axial flow. The radial flow turbine is mainly used for small automotive or truck turbochargers; the axial type is commonly used for the large turbochargers applied to medium-speed stationary and railway traction engines and large marine engines.

Causes of Error for Turbine Radial Palette Measurement

2021 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2021
This paper describes the project of an optical measurement system, an evolution of the system currently installed on the lathe for turbine palettes refinement in Ansaldo Energie, developed by the Politecnico di Milano. This article analyzes the most significant causes of errors found in designing an optical measurement system, proposing improvements ...
