We conduct experiments on both real and synthetic radial velocity (RV) data to quantify the impact that observing cadence, the number of RV observations, and undetected companions all have on the accuracy of small planet mass measurements.

Periodic radial velocity variations in RU Lupi
Context. RU Lup is a Classical T Tauri star with unusually strong emission lines, which has been interpreted as manifestations of accretion. Recently, evidence has accumulated that this star might have a variable radial velocity. Aims.

Do stellar magnetic cycles influence the measurement of precise radial velocities?
The ever increasing level of precision achieved by present and future radial-velocity instruments is opening the way to discovering very low-mass, long-period planets (e.g. solar-system analogs).

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Precise Radial Velocities [PDF]
AbstractCurrent techniques for the detection of long-term, low-amplitude (<50 m s−1), radial velocity variations are briefly reviewed together with some of their most successful programs. In the era of 8- to 10-m telescopes we must strive for a precision of < 1ms−1.

The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Shape of the Galactic Orbits in Clusters
A kinematical analysis applied to a sample of galaxy clusters indicates that the differences between the velocity distribution of elliptical and spiral galaxies are associated with the shape of their orbit families.
