Dissipation of Energy Radiated by Earthquakes [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1977
SUMMARY. - Representing radiated seismic energy as a sum of normal modes
we are able to develop approximate equations describing the dissipation of
this energy in the earth by solid friction.

Spatial Distribution of Radiated Seismic Energy from Local and Regional Earthquakes in Taiwan

open access: gold, 2020
<p>The radiated energy during earthquakes is one of the important characteristics that have a great impact on human lives. The study of the released energy during earthquakes and their distribution may provide a detailed knowledge about the driving forces.

Frequency-size distribution of global seismicity seen frombroad-band radiated energy [PDF]

open access: bronzeGeophysical Journal International, 2000
The frequency–energy distribution of global seismicity is studied using broad-band radiated energy of shallow earthquakes from January 1987 to December 1994 estimated by NEIC. Rank-ordering statistics are applied to enhance the resolution in retrieving the power-law distribution with undersampled data, namely a few tens of events.

Estimating radiated seismic energy for New Zealand and the South-West pacific

open access: gold
Resilience during and after large earthquakes depends heavily on the rapid characterisation of the events and their impacts. To achieve the best response possible, it is useful to estimate the dynamic rupture characteristics. The duration of rupture can help us assess tsunamigenic potential, by detecting the special class of “tsunami ...

Probing earthquake dynamics through seismic radiated energy rate: illustration with the M7.8 2015 Nepal earthquake

open access: green, 2018
Dynamic characterizations of earthquakes focus on whole-event representations, that is whether the total radiation of seismic waves is more or less energetic. Denolle et al (2015) and Yin et al.

Radiometric Constraints on the Timing, Tempo, and Effects of Large Igneous Province Emplacement

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 27-82., 2021

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.
