Structural and functional characterization of chitinase from carnivorous plant Drosera adelae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A class I chitinase from the carnivorous plant Drosera adelae was expressed and purified using a yeast system, revealing high enzymatic activity. Structural analyses of the catalytic and chitin‐binding domains identified key tyrosine residues involved in substrate binding, offering insights into the enzyme's adaptation for insect digestion.

Assessment of new composites containing polyamide-6 and lead monoxide as shields against ionizing photonic radiation based on computational and experimental methods

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
This study aimed to introduce new composites, containing polyamide-6 (PA6) and lead monoxide (PbO), to protect against ionizing photon sources used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

New Constraints on the Escape of Ionizing Photons From Starburst Galaxies Using Ionization-Parameter Mapping

open access: yes, 2013
The fate of ionizing radiation in starburst galaxies is key to understanding cosmic reionization. However, the galactic parameters on which the escape fraction of ionizing radiation depend are not well understood.

Research progress on the metabolic transformation of Shenling Baizhu San under the influence of the gut microbiota

open access: yesAdvanced Chinese Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in maintaining host metabolic homeostasis and overall physiological functions. Shenling Baizhu San (SLBZS), a time‐honored classical prescription for tonifying Qi, strengthening the spleen, removing dampness, and arresting diarrhea, has shown broad clinical efficacy in digestive disorders.

Short–Term Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields Generated by Mobile Phone Jammers Decreases the Fasting Blood Sugar in Adult Male Rats

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Physics and Engineering, 2016
Background: Substantial evidence indicates that exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) above certain levels can affect human health through triggering some biological responses.

Assessment of the SARS-CoV-2 basic reproduction number, R0, based on the early phase of COVID-19 outbreak in Italy

open access: yesBiosafety and Health, 2020
As of March 12th Italy has the largest number of SARS-CoV-2 cases in Europe as well as outside China. The infections, first limited in Northern Italy, have eventually spread to all other regions.

Time-dependent Photoionization of Gaseous Nebulae: the Pure Hydrogen Case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We study the problem of time-dependent photoionization of low density gaseous nebulae subjected to sudden changes in the intensity of ionizing radiation. To this end, we write a computer code that solves the full time-dependent energy balance, ionization

Mutational signatures of ionizing radiation in second malignancies

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Ionizing radiation is a potent carcinogen, inducing cancer through DNA damage. The signatures of mutations arising in human tissues following in vivo exposure to ionizing radiation have not been documented.

Central Dysmyelination in SSADH‐Deficient Humans and Mice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency (SSADHD) is an inherited metabolic disorder characterized by an accumulation of γ‐aminobutyric (GABA). In addition to its synaptic role as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA also plays an important role in myelination.
