NNMT Orchestrates Metabolic‐Epigenetic Reprogramming to Drive Macrophage‐Myofibroblast Transition in Hypertrophic Scarring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In macrophage‐myofibroblast transition, upregulated NNMT depletes S‐Adenosylmethionine‌ (SAM) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD+), thereby triggering epigenetic reprogramming via Histone H3 Lysine 27 acetylation (H3K27ac) accumulation at the promoter region of master transcription factor Prrx1.

Effect of patient anxiety on image motion artefacts in CBCT

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2017
Background Artefacts in images related to patient movement decrease image quality, potentially necessitating re-scanning, which leads to an extra radiation dose for the patient. Thus, avoiding patient motion reduces patient exposure to radiation. The aim

High-Power Electromagnetic Pulse Exposure of Healthy Mice: Assessment of Effects on Mice Cognitions, Neuronal Activities, and Hippocampal Structures

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2022
Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) is a high-energy pulse with an extremely rapid rise time and a broad bandwidth. The brain is a target organ sensitive to electromagnetic radiation (EMR), the biological effects and related mechanisms of EMPs on the brain ...

The Impact of Music Therapy on Anxiety in Cancer Patients Undergoing Simulation for Radiation Therapy [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 2017
Radiation therapy (RT) is associated with high stress levels. The role of music therapy (MT) for patients receiving RT is not well described. This study evaluates the impact of MT on anxiety and distress during simulation in patients with newly diagnosed head and neck or breast cancer. This institutional review board-approved randomized trial of MT ...

A Wireless, Battery‐Free Artificial Throat Patch with Deep Learning for Emotional Speech Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, Xu and co‐workers develop a wireless, battery‐free artificial throat patch system (ATPS) consisting of a carbon nanotube‐based thin‐film strain sensor and a miniaturized flexible printed circuit board, to enable real‐time sensing of throat signals.

Radioprotective Effects of Vitis vinifera L. Seed against Radiation-Induced Short-Term Memory Loss in Young Adult Wistar Rats [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Physics
Introduction: Brain radiation therapy often results in short-term memory loss that progresses to cognitive impairment. This issue primarily arises from ionizing radiation generating reactive oxygen species, contributing to chronic oxidative stress that ...

Simulation study on radiation exposure of emergency medical responders from radioactively contaminated patients

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Emergency medical responders (EMRs) who treat victims during a radiation emergency are at risk of radiation exposure. In this study, the exposure dose to EMRs treating hypothetically contaminated patients was estimated using a Monte Carlo simulation, and

Quality of life effects of androgen deprivation therapy in a prostate cancer cohort in New Zealand: Can we minimize effects using a stratification based on the aldo-keto reductase family 1, member C3 rs12529 gene polymorphism? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is an effective palliation treatment in men with advanced prostate cancer (PC). However, ADT has well documented side effects that could alter the patient's health-related quality of life (HRQoL).
