Coherent Unipolar Cherenkov and Diffraction Radiation Generated by Relativistic Electrons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
For usual radiation the integral of the electric field strength over the time is zero. First time the possibility of unipolar radiation generation has been considered theoretically in the paper [EG.Bessonov. Preprint No 76 of the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Academy of Science of the USSR, Moscow, 1990].

Spi1 R235C point mutation confers hypersensitivity to radiation-induced acute myeloid leukemia in mice

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Ionizing radiation (IR) is a risk factor for acute myeloid leukemia (rAML). Murine rAMLs feature both hemizygous chromosome 2 deletions (Del2) and point mutations (R235) within the hematopoietic regulatory gene Spi1.

Advanced Omics and Radiobiological Tissue Archives: The Future in the Past

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Archival formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues and their related diagnostic records are an invaluable source of biological information. The archival samples can be used for retrospective investigation of molecular fingerprints and biomarkers ...

Radiation damage effects on detectors and eletronic devices in harsh radiation environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Radiation damage effects represent one of the limits for technologies to be used in harsh radiation environments as space, radiotherapy treatment, high-energy phisics colliders. Different technologies have known tolerances to different radiation fields and should be taken into account to avoid unexpected failures which may lead to unrecoverable damages

Efficiency of gratings for silica fiber-coupled internal Smith-Purcell radiation and Cherenkov diffraction radiation -- a quantitative numerical study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We propose a setup for measuring visible and near-visible internal Smith-Purcell radiation and Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation, based on silica and silicon, and perform quantitative numerical analysis of its radiation efficiency. We calculate the total radiated energy per electron and the spectral distribution of different radiation orders, taking into

Transition radiation based transverse beam diagnostics for non relativistic ion beams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The usage of optical transition radiation for profile monitoring of relativistic electron beams is well known. This report presents the case for beam diagnostic application of optical transition radiation for non-relativistic ion beams. The angular distribution of the transition radiation emitted from few target materials for ion beam irradiation is ...

Unruh radiation produced by a uniformly accelerating charged particle in thermal random motions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this study, we investigate the signature of the Unruh effect in quantum radiation from an accelerated charged particle interacting with vacuum fluctuations. Because a charged particle in uniformly accelerated motion exhibits thermal random motion around the classical trajectory because of the Unruh effect, its quantum radiation might be termed Unruh

A cellular system to study responses to a collision between the transcription complex and a protein‐bound nick in the DNA template

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

Autophagy in cancer and protein conformational disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Autophagy plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, including protein and organelle quality control, development, immunity, and metabolism. Hence, dysregulation or mutations in autophagy‐related genes have been implicated in a wide range of human diseases.

A note on potential gains in precision of radiation risk estimates from joint analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports
In estimating radiation-related risk of cancer and other diseases based on the RERF Life Span Study (LSS), joint analyses can be performed where multiple health outcome endpoints are combined in the same model, allowing some parameters to be estimated in
