Unilateral radiation pneumonitis in sheep: physiological changes and bronchoalveolar lavage

open access: yes, 1989
Radiation pneumonitis is a life-threatening result of therapeutic thoracic irradiation, yet its mechanisms are poorly understood. We studied the effects of unilateral lung irradiation (3,000 rad) in sheep from the immediate response to the later ...

Lung V5 and Planning Target Volume/Lung Volume Ratio as Independent Risk Factors for ≥Grade 2 Radiation Pneumonitis after Moderately Hypofractionated Radiotherapy: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung V5 and the planning target volume/lung volume ratio were identified as independent dosimetric risk factors for clinically significant radiation pneumonitis following moderately hypofractionated radiotherapy for lung cancer. Maintaining V5 < 35% may help mitigate this risk in clinical practice.

Radiation recall pneumonitis triggered by an immune checkpoint inhibitor following re-irradiation in a lung cancer patient: a case report

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine, 2022
Background Radiation recall pneumonitis (RRP) is unpredictable but associated with severe radiation damage in previously irradiated fields. Chemotherapy and targeted drugs have been reported to contribute to RRP.

Cardiovascular toxicity from immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy: an inflammatory continuum

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy has markedly improved outcomes in advanced malignancies but has also revealed a distinct spectrum of cardiovascular immune‐related adverse events. Myocarditis represents the most severe manifestation, while non‐inflammatory left ventricular dysfunction and vascular inflammation have emerged as additional ...

Advances in Radiotherapy for Neoadjuvant Therapy of Stage III Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This review summarizes three neoadjuvant radiotherapy techniques for stage III NSCLC, highlighting SFRT's low‐toxicity dual immune‐tumor control benefits and radioimmunotherapy's superior pathological response to guide precise multimodal treatment. ABSTRACT This review aims to systematically summarize the mechanisms of action, clinical evolution, and ...

Improving timeliness of lung cancer care through a rapid assessment clinic

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer improve survival. Guidelines from Australia and worldwide stipulate timeframes of care from referral. The Rapid Lung Assessment Clinic (RLAC) was established to fast‐track the diagnostic and treatment pathway, with a subsequent quality improvement initiative based on the initial analysis ...

Changes in plasma transforming growth factor beta during radiotherapy and the risk of symptomatic radiation-induced pneumonitis

open access: yes, 1997
Purpose: To determine whether changes in the plasma Transforming Growth Factor β1 (TGFβ1) concentration during radiotherapy could identify patients at risk for developing symptomatic radiation pneumonitis.
