On prognostic estimates of radiation risk in medicine and radiation protection

open access: yesRadiation and Environmental Biophysics, 2019
The problem of expressing cumulative detrimental effect of radiation exposure is revisited. All conventionally used and computationally complex lifetime or time-integrated risks are based on current population and health statistical data, with unknown ...

Comprehensive clinical evaluation of novel 4DCT‐based lung function imaging methods

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Methods have been developed that apply image processing to 4DCTs to generate 4DCT‐ventilation/perfusion lung imaging. Traditional methods for 4DCT‐ventilation rely on Hounsfield‐Unit (HU) density‐change methods and suffer from poor numerical robustness while not providing 4DCT‐perfusion data.

Design and validation of a novel dosimetry phantom for motion management audits

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background We present a novel phantom design for conducting end‐to‐end dosimetry audits for respiratory motion management of two anatomical treatment sites. The design enables radiochromic film measurements of the dose administered to the target throughout the respiratory cycle (motion‐included) and the dose delivered to the time‐averaged ...

Investigation of radiation‐protection knowledge, attitudes, and practices of North Queensland dentists

open access: yesJournal of Investigative and Clinical Dentistry, 2018
AIM Queensland has current radiation-protection guidelines; however, with the absence of data exploring compliance and implementation, the efficacy is unknown.

The burden of intracranial atherosclerosis on cerebral small vessel disease: A community cohort study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Exploring the prevalence and association between intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) and cerebral small vessel diseases (CSVD), this study delved beyond the current scope, utilising high‐resolution vessel wall MRI (HRVW‐MRI) to investigate how subtle changes in intracranial atherosclerotic features influence the various burdens of ...

Entirely protecting operating systems against transient errors in space environment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In this article, we propose a mainly-software hardening technique to totally protect unmodified running operating systems on COTS hardware against transient errors in heavily radiation - flooded environment like high altitude space. The technique is currently being implemented in a hypervisor and allows to control the upper layers of the software stack
