Targeting of Inflammation for Radiation Protection and Mitigation.
Current Molecular Pharmacology, 2018BACKGROUND Inflammation is the response of the immune system that guards the body against several harmful stimuli in normal conditions. However, in response to ionizing radiation that leads to a massive cell death and DNA aberrations, this phenomenon ...

This chapter deals with radiation protection aspects of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) imaging techniques involving ionizing radiation. Due to stochastic effects and, at very high doses, tissue reactions caused by X-rays, radiation protection of patients, staff, and public should always be taken into account.

Radiation protection legislation
European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, 1998Recent legislation which has been passed in Europe comprises the Basic Safety Standard (BSS) [1] and the Medical Exposure Directive (MED) [2]. These documents are the implementation of ICRP's report 60 [3], and ICRP publication 73 [4] expands ICRP60 for medical applications.

Radiation protection in medicine
1980Ionizing radiation is a powerful tool in many branches of medicine, both as an aid to diagnosis and a means of therapy (treatment). The most familiar application is the diagnostic X-ray, which is used in a wide variety of examinations, from locating a swallowed marble to a routine examination of the chest. Radiation can induce cancer and yet, curiously,

Radiation Regulations and Protection
1998Radiation hazards to humans are well documented. To minimize their risks, international and national organizations have been established to set guidelines for safe handling of radiations. As mentioned in Chapter 15, the ICRP and NCRP are two such organizations.

Radiation Exposure and Radiation Protection [PDF]
It seems appropriate to include a short chapter on radiation exposure and radiation protection, because many parents ask about the danger of X-rays to their children and form misconceptions based on a lack of knowledge. On the one hand, it is important that we utilize every possible means to limit radiation exposure; on the other, we must reassure ...
