Diagnostic radiology procedures, such as computed tomography (CT) and X-ray, are an increasing source of ionising radiation exposure to our community. Exposure to ionising radiation is associated with increased risk of malignancy, proportional to the level of exposure.

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2009
The goal of this work is to provide an overview of a Radiation safety system (RSS) designed for protection from prompt radiation hazard at accelerator facilities. RSS design parameters, functional requirements and constraints are derived from hazard analysis and risk assessment undertaken in the design phase of the facility.

Radiation safety for anesthesiologists
Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology, 2011To review the recent literature on the implications of occupational radiation exposure in anesthesia practice.Wide variation and lack of reduction in operator doses of medical radiation strongly suggests that more attention must be paid to the factors influencing radiation dose exposure.

Radiation Safety Management Audits are an important tool for maintaining a good radiation safety program. They serve as a useful mechanism for program evaluation and improvement and can be instrumental in correcting problems, communicating strengths and weaknesses to manangement and involving the Radiation Safety Committee in the program operation ...

Radiation Safety and Protection
Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, 1988Often overlooked are the consequences of low-level radiation. This article increases awareness of the short- and long-term effects of x-rays on the podiatrist, his staff and patients. Protection can be achieved for all concerned by using the radiographic techniques, low-cost ways for dosage reduction, and monitoring devices discussed.

Radiation safety in the animal house
Laboratory Animals, 1993Types of radiation Ionizing radiations are widely employed in diagnosis, treatment and research. As the name suggests, they are radiations of various types whose energy is high enough to cause ionization. That is, the action of the radiation on the target material removes one or more electrons from the atoms, leaving positively charged ions.
