Durability assessment of mechanochemically activated geopolymer concrete with a low molarity alkali solution

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
The prevailing practices of geopolymer concrete (GC) preparation use a high concentration of alkali activators, which is uneconomical. It is imperative to develop GC of low-concentration activators with enhanced durability for field implementation ...

Neutron and gamma-ray transport calculations in support of the design of the radiation shielding for the TOFED neutron spectrometer at LHD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The neutron emission spectrometer (NES) has been commissioned at the Large Helical Device (LHD) with a new Time-Of-Flight-Enhanced-Diagnostics (TOFED). The aim of the TOFED is to measure the neutron energy spectrum to study the fast-ions behavior such as

Time-independent hybrid enrichment for finite element solution of transient conduction–radiation in diffusive grey media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the effectiveness of the partition-of-unity finite element method for transient conduction–radiation problems in diffusive grey media. The governing equations consist of a semi-linear transient heat equation for the temperature ?eld and a ...

Passive radiation shielding investigations in low earth orbit and in an accelerator

open access: yes, 2006
Crews of future exploration missions will be exposed for long time to a unique powerful mix of cosmic radiation. Starting from REMSIM study for ESA, we are focusing on short and long term shielding experiments aboard ISS (ESCHILO, ALTCRISS, SOFOCLE) by ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
