Aerosol‐Cloud‐Precipitation Interactions in the Context of Convective Self‐Aggregation

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2019
We investigate the sensitivity of self‐aggregated radiative‐convective‐equilibrium cloud‐resolving model simulations to the cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) concentration.

Assessing Past and Future Temperature‐ and Precipitation‐Based Indicators in the Republic of Yemen

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
For the first time in the literature, this work assesses the past and future climatic trends over Yemen, a highly vulnerable country for which science‐based, high‐quality information for the development of climate change adaptation plans was not available until now.

Understanding WASP-12b

open access: yes, 2018
The orbital period of the hot Jupiter WASP-12b is apparently changing. We study whether this reflects orbital decay due to tidal dissipation in the star, or apsidal precession of a slightly eccentric orbit.

Three Generations of NARCliM: Evaluation of Precipitation, Temperature and Their Extremes Over the CORDEX Australasia Domain

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The NSW and Australian Regional Climate Modelling Version 2.0 (NARCliM2.0) builds on NARCliM1.0 and 1.5 to deliver improved regional climate simulations. This study provides the first comprehensive evaluation of NARCliM2.0 against its predecessors, assessing individual model skill in reproducing mean and extreme climate.

Analytical Modeling of Heat Transfer and Deformation Around a Circular Cavity in Elastic Ground

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The subsurface is increasingly exploited to host energy, utilities, and infrastructure systems that interact with surrounding soils and rocks through their thermal and functional operation. Prominent examples are provided by energy geostructures, district heating networks, buried power cables, steam and water pipes, and underground nuclear ...

Reversing Fatigue Damage in Carbon Fiber–Thermoplastic Composites Using Localized Plasma Heating

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Schematic overview of the plasma‐assisted repair strategy for fatigue‐damaged short fiber carbon fiber/ABS composites. Pristine specimens are subjected to cyclic fatigue loading inducing damage. Localized plasma heating softens the thermoplastic matrix, enabling healing and restoring mechanical performance. Tensile testing is used to quantify recovery.

Convective Self‐Aggregation in Diurnally Oscillating Sea Surface Temperature and Solar Forcing Experiments

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
We have addressed convective self‐aggregation (CSA) in steady and oscillating sea surface temperature (SST) and solar radiation (SOLIN) cloud‐resolving model simulations in a non‐rotating radiative‐convective equilibrium (RCE) framework.

Clouds, Circulation, and Climate Sensitivity in a Radiative‐Convective Equilibrium Channel Model

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2017
Tropical cloud and circulation changes are large sources of uncertainty in future climate change. This problem owes partly to the scale separation between large‐scale tropical dynamics ( ∼104 km) and convective dynamics ( ∼1 km), which generally requires

Pebble dynamics and accretion onto rocky planets. II. Radiative models

open access: yes, 2018
We investigate the effects of radiative energy transfer on a series of nested-grid, high-resolution hydrodynamic simulations of gas and particle dynamics in the vicinity of an Earth-mass planetary embryo. We include heating due to the accretion of solids
