Numerical Performance of Correlated-k Distribution Method in Atmospheric Escape Simulation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Atmospheric escape is crucial to understanding the evolution of planets in and out of the solar system and to interpreting atmospheric observations. While hydrodynamic escape simulations have been actively developed incorporating detailed processes such ...

Report of the 1988 2-D Intercomparison Workshop, chapter 3 [PDF]

open access: yes
Several factors contribute to the errors encountered. With the exception of the line-by-line model, all of the models employ simplifying assumptions that place fundamental limits on their accuracy and range of validity.

The Effect of Purcell Cavities on the Lifetime of Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Emitters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A pressing challenge to OLED displays and lighting is to balance high efficiency and long operational lifetime in the deep blue spectrum. The Purcell effect can reduce the triplet density and hence the probability for destructive energy‐driven triplet annihilation events that limit the OLED lifetime. Here we study of the Purcell effect on two different

On the Stability Analysis of Astrophysical Cooling Functions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
To model the temperature evolution of optically thin astrophysical environments at MHD scales, radiative and collisional cooling rates are typically either pretabulated or fit into a functional form and then input into MHD codes as a radiative loss ...

Radiative cooling for long-term building energy efficiency: An experimental comparison of seven coatings

open access: yesNational Science Open
Radiative cooling coatings are widely used owing to their excellent cooling performance and energy efficiency. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research on their weather resistance, long-term performance and effects on building load.

From Single Atoms to Nanoparticles: Pathways Toward Efficient and Durable Pt/TiO2 Photocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Platinum single atoms on TiO2 nanosheets evolve into clusters and nanoparticles under ethanol photoreforming and thermal treatments. By controlling deposition and post‐treatments, particle size and location on specific facets are modulated. The study reveals how stability pathways determine efficiency, guiding the design of more durable photocatalysts.

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.

Infrared Nanocrystals for Space Application: Hardness to Irradiations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates infrared HgTe nanocrystals under X‐ray and ion irradiation, revealing remarkable radiation hardness. It uncovers distinct degradation mechanisms and shows that the nanomaterial outperforms integrated electronics. The results position colloidal nanocrystals as promising candidates for resilient space and harsh‐environment ...

INNOVATIVE INTEGRATION OF DAILY RADIATIVE COOLING AND SOLAR HEATING: PRESENTING THE AD-RCE FOR COMBINED RENEWABLE HEATING AND COOLING

open access: yesAvances en Ciencias y Técnicas del Frío - 12. Actas del XII Congreso Ibérico y X Congreso Iberoamericano de Ciencias y Técnicas del Frío CYTEF 2024
This research introduces the Adaptive Radiative Collector and Emitter (ad-RCE) device, an evolution of the Radiative Collector and Emitter (RCE). The RCE has demonstrated the dual capability of producing hot water using solar collection during the day and cold water below ambient temperature using radiative cooling at night. With the development of new
