Parity‐Dependent THz Harmonic Generation in Electrically Pumped Micro‐Lasers Exploiting Topological Insulator–Metamaterial Gratings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Topological insulator–metamaterials integrated with electrically driven terahertz quantum cascade lasers enable parity‐dependent harmonic generation. Bulk‐dominated Bi2Se3 favors third‐harmonic emission at 9.96 THz, whereas topological‐surface‐state‐dominated Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, and (Bi,Sb)2Te3 generate strong second harmonics near 6.5 THz.

Analysis of radiative feedbacks in model simulations including interactive chemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Including interactive atmospheric chemistry in climate change simulations may have a significant impact on the climate sensitivity. In CO2-driven simulations the climate sensitivity has been found to be reduced.

Spontaneous Cyclogenesis without Radiative and Surface-Flux Feedbacks

open access: yes, 2020
Tropical cyclones (TCs) are among the most intense and feared storms in the world. What physical processes lead to cyclogenesis remains the most mysterious aspect of TC physics. Here, we study spontaneous TC genesis using cloud-resolving simulations over

Life‐Like Ferrous Oxide Microspheres from Kombucha

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Kombucha bacterial cellulose, sodium alginate, and ferrous nitrate self‐assemble into membrane‐enclosed iron oxide microspheres. These microspheres bud daughter vesicles, sustain 24‐h electrochemical oscillations, and filter theta‐band signals.

Radiative, Hydrologic, and Circulation Responses to Warming in Cess‐Potter Simulations Using the Global 3.25‐km SCREAM

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
Using the global 3.25‐km Simple Cloud Resolving E3SM Atmosphere Model (SCREAM 3 km), a pair of 13‐month Cess‐Potter simulations are performed to quantify the radiative feedbacks and the hydrologic and circulation responses to warming. Large‐scale aspects

Liquid‐Crystal‐Based Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface for 7 GHz Mobile Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The glass‐based liquid‐crystal reconfigurable intelligent surface (LC‐RIS) integrates active‐matrix driving and blind‐greedy phase optimization within a 5G‐NR OFDM framework. This enables continuously tunable and autonomous enhancement of wireless coverage. Leveraging the transparency and manufacturability of liquid crystal panels, it is ideally suited

An Assessment of Direct Radiative Forcing, Radiative Adjustments, and Radiative Feedbacks in Coupled Ocean–Atmosphere Models

open access: yes, 2015
In this study, radiative kernels are used to separate direct radiative forcing from radiative adjustments to that forcing to quantify the magnitude and intermodel spread of tropospheric and stratospheric adjustments in coupled ocean–atmosphere climate ...
