The Stability of Massive Main Sequence Stars as a Function of Metallicity

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the pulsational stability of massive (M >~ 120 Msun) main sequence stars of a range of metallicities, including primordial, Population III stars.

Multipurpose Transparent Nanocomposites for Gamma Spectroscopy, Pulse Shape Discrimination, Thermal Neutron Detection, Radiation Shielding, and High Refractive Index Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials exist that are useful for gamma scintillation, radiation shielding, neutron‐gamma pulse shape discrimination (PSD), thermal neutron detection, or high refractive index applications. While certain materials have exhibited optimal performance for each of these applications, none achieve multiple functions.

PyRTlib: an educational Python-based library for non-scattering atmospheric microwave radiative transfer computations [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
This article introduces PyRTlib, a new standalone Python package for non-scattering line-by-line microwave radiative transfer simulations. PyRTlib is a flexible and user-friendly tool for computing down- and upwelling brightness temperatures and related ...

Radiative accelerations on Ne in the atmospheres of late B stars

open access: yes, 2002
Radiative accelerations on Ne are calculated for the atmospheres of main sequence stars with 11000 < Teff < 15000 K, corresponding to the range of the HgMn stars.

Radiative opacities for carbon- and oxygen-rich mixtures

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1993
Recent OPAL calculations have obtained significant differences in the Rosseland mean opacities compared with earlier Los Alamos work. These new opacities have had a favorable impact on several astrophysical problems, but the efforts have concentrated on hydrogen main-sequence stars or stellar envelopes.

Novel Functional Materials via 3D Printing by Vat Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective systematically analyzes strategies for incorporating functionalities into 3D‐printed materials via Vat Photopolymerization (VP). It explores the spectrum of achievable functionalities in recently reported novel materials—such as conductive, energy‐storing, biodegradable, stimuli‐responsive, self‐healing, shape‐memory, biomaterials, and

Dust Envelopes around Massive Young Stellar Objects [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2008
We investigate the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of Massive Young Stellar Objects (MYSOs) using the various infrared observational data including the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) data.

Efficiency of thermal relaxation by radiative processes in protoplanetary discs: constraints on hydrodynamic turbulence

open access: yes, 2017
Hydrodynamic, non-magnetic instabilities can provide turbulent stress in the regions of protoplanetary discs, where the MRI can not develop. The induced motions influence the grain growth, from which formation of planetesimals begins.

Exploring the Potential Diversity of Early Type Ia Supernova Light Curves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
During the first several days after explosion, Type Ia supernova light curves probe the outer layers of the exploding star and therefore provide important clues for identifying their progenitors. We investigate how both the shallow $^{56}$Ni distribution

Opacity Studies of Silicon in Radiatively Heated Plasma

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2008
Measurements of the opacity of silicon at high temperature and high density are reported. A silicon dioxide foam was heated by eight nanosecond laser beams while a backlighter X-ray source was produced with a picosecond laser. Absorptions of the 1-2 transitions of Si XII through Si VI were observed in the wavelength range from 6.6 to 7.1 A.
