Microanatomy of incremental growth lines in dental tissues in reindeer Rangifer tarandus
The nature of the incremental lines in reindeer cementum was investigated using back‐scattered electron imaging in an SEM. Winter rest lines form when matrix deposition stops, but mineralisation continues by a process analogous to maturation in bone and the formation of multiple tidemark lines in articular calcified cartilage.
