Chronic Distal Radio-ulna Instability

2014
Instability may be defined as an abnormal pattern of joint kinematics that allows the Distal Radio-Ulna Joint (DRUJ) to sublux or dislocate. There must, however, be a loss of the control of this movement for the patient to experience symptoms. This is distinctive to joint laxity, which is asymptomatic.

Synovial Osteochondromatosis of the Distal Radio-Ulnar Joint

Journal of Hand Surgery, 1996
Synovial osteochondromatosis is an uncommon lesion characterized by cartilagenous and osseous metaplasia of joint synovium. It is typically monarticular, affecting large joints such as the knee and hip, although it has also been described in the ankle, elbow and shoulder.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE DISTAL RADIO-ULNAR JOINT

Hand Clinics, 1998
The pectoral girdle and the distal radio-ulnar joint have evolved over a period of 400 million years. Clinical circumstances exist that may represent atavistic development in modern man. Current understanding of this complex area does not explain all clinical situations.

Modified Arthroplasty of the Distal Radio-Ulnar Joint

Journal of Hand Surgery, 2002
We report a modified arthroplasty technique for limited degenerative arthritis of the distal radioulnar joint, in which the proximal hyperemic portion of the joint is resected with preservation of the unaffected distal portion. The charts often patients, one bilateral, were retrospectively reviewed and all 11 wrists were examined after an average of ...

Distal radio-ulnar implant arthroplasty: a systematic review

Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume), 2017
The use of implant arthroplasty in the hand and wrist is increasing, often with little evidence of outcomes in the literature. We therefore undertook a systematic review of the outcomes of distal radio-ulnar joint arthroplasties following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.

Capsulotomy of the Distal Radio Ulnar Joint

Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1988
In 18 patients, of whom the majority had sequelae after fractures to the distal radius, a capsulotomy of the distal radio ulnar joint was performed. Their main complaints were painful restricted forearm rotation combined with reduced grip strength. All patients were examined at least one year after surgery.

Radio-Lunate Arthrodesis for Distal Radial Intraarticular Malunion

Journal of Hand Surgery, 1996
Eleven cases of symptomatic distal radial intraarticular malunion were treated by radio-lunate arthrodesis from 1983 to 1991. The mean age was 35.3 years. There were 11 men, all manual workers. The mechanism was usually a high velocity injury. The time elapsed since injury was a mean 23 months (2–109 months).

The distal radio-ulnar joint in Colles' fractures

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1993
The effect of involvement of the distal radio-ulnar joint on subsequent function was studied in 170 patients with Colles' fractures, reviewed for one year after cast removal. Patients with involvement of this joint had significantly weaker grips and a significantly greater incidence of pain and tenderness over the joint at all stages of follow-up ...

Subacute distal radio-ulnar joint subluxation after a distal radius fracture

Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume)
We report a series of 12 patients who developed early distal radioulnar joint subluxation after a distal radial fracture, not present on the initial radiographs. Early identification and management of this condition can give good clinical results. Level of evidence: IV
