Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Determinação da densidade mineral óssea da extremidade distal do rádio-ulna em gatos: correlação entre peso, sexo e idade Determination the bone mineral density of the distal extremity of the radius-ulna in cats: correlation between weight, sex and age

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Flexor carpi radialis brevis.

To compare the functional and radiological outcome between external fixation and volar plating for the treatment of intraarticular distal end radius fractures

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2023
Background: Fracture of distal radius may be stable that is extra-articular, non-comminuted without distal radio ulnar joint disruption or unstable that is intra-articular, comminuted displaced with distal radio ulnar joint disruption.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

Pedicle Freezing with Liquid Nitrogen for Malignant Bone Tumour in the Radius: A New Technique of Osteotomy of the Ulna

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2012
We describe a new technique of pedicle freezing of the distal radius with malignant bone tumour and osteotomy of the normal ulna. The distal radius was sufficiently elevated to enable freezing without damaging adjacent tissues by releasing the distal ...
