Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Progress in stellarator research at IPP-Kharkov

open access: yesNukleonika, 2016
A new antenna of ‘crankshaft’ type has been installed in the Uragan-2M device in order to increase the plasma density and heating below the ion cyclotron frequency. Antenna operation is modelled by 1D code, which solves boundary problem for time-harmonic

Radar observations of artificial E-region field-aligned irregularities [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2009
Artificial E region field aligned plasma density irregularities (FAIs) were generated using HAARP in four different experimental modes and observed with a coherent scatter radar imager located 450 km to the southwest where it could detect field ...

Sterilizing Ready-to-Eat Poached Spicy Pork Slices Using a New Device: Combined Radio Frequency Energy and Superheated Water

open access: yesFoods, 2022
In this study, a new device was used to inactivate G. stearothermophilus spores in ready-to-eat (RTE) poached spicy pork slices (PSPS) applying radio frequency (RF) energy (27.12 MHz, 6 kW) and superheated water (SW) simultaneously.

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Ionosphere response to the impact of an extraordinary radio wave when located at a frequency close to the heating frequency

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics
The paper presents the results of experiments on the impact of powerful high-frequency radio emission from the SURA mid-latitude heating facility (56.1° N, 46.1° E) on Earth's ionosphere.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Relationship between skin temperature and blood flow during exposure to radio frequency energy: implications for device development

open access: yesBMC Biomedical Engineering
Background The ST response to high frequency EM heating may give an indication of rate of BF in underlying tissue. This novel method, which we have termed REFLO (Rapid Electromagnetic Flow) has potential for applications such as detection of PAD.
