On dynamical models for radio galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesNew Astronomy Reviews, 2002
The tailed radio galaxies that have been called ``Type I'' are not a uniform set. To study their dynamics, we have used the Ledlow-Owen data set, which provides a new sample of 250 radio galaxies in nearby Abell clusters. These sources divide into two clear categories based on their radio morphology.

Cosmological Evolution in Radio Galaxies

Nature, 1971
ROWAN-ROBINSON has presented evidence that radio galaxies exhibit remarkably strong evolutionary effects with cosmological epoch1. Examination of his evidence, however, indicates that, although an evolutionary effect may indeed be present, no reliable estimate of the time scale involved can yet be made in the way he proposes.

Radio Map of the Andromeda Galaxy

Science, 1964
The University of Illinois radio telescope has resolved the 610.5 Mcy/sec disk component of radio emission from the large galaxy M 31 into several discrete concentrations. In two cases, these correspond to the crossing of the optical major axis by spiral arms. A spur of emission extends southeast from the galaxy near the minor axis.
