Radio Scintillations observed during Venus Express radio occultation measurements

Radio occultation measurements conducted at Venus have yielded invaluable insights into the atmospheric properties of the planet. Among the intriguing phenomena observed during these measurements is radio scintillation, marked by rapid fluctuations in signal intensity.

The Assimilation of Radio Occultation Measurements

2003
GPS radio occultation (RO) measurements are a potentially important new source of profile information that can be used in numerical weather prediction (NWP). This paper outlines the options for assimilating the RO measurements into an operational NWP system. The importance of realistic estimates for the observation error estimates is discussed.

GNSS Radio Occultation from LEO: Occultation Management and Open-loop Tracking Aspects

2004
This paper focuses on particular aspects of customised GPS receivers for radio occultation: occultation management and open-loop tracking. The two aspects are closely related because open-loop tracking requires a-priori geometric information about the occultation events.

Atmospheric profiling by GPS Radio Occultation

2011
GPS RO is a global sounding technique providing atmospheric profiles useful for numerical weather prediction and climate studies. The system sounds the Earth’s atmosphere evaluating the delay affecting the passing radio signal. Such a delay is processed to retrieve profiles of refractivity at global scale, and subsequently temperature, pressure and ...
