Coherent curvature radiation and fast radio bursts [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2018
Fast radio bursts are extragalactic radio transient events lasting a few milliseconds with a ~Jy flux at ~1 GHz. We propose that these properties suggest a neutron star progenitor, and focus on coherent curvature radiation as the radiation mechanism. We study for which sets of parameters the emission can fulfil the observational constraints.

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Omnipolar Magnetic Field Detection by Superlattice‐Based Hall Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic‐field‐induced electronic switching is demonstrated in unit‐cell‐engineered La0.7Sr0.3MnO3–BiFeO3 superlattices. Distinct substrate terminations modify magnetic and transport properties. Hall resistance measurements show omnipolar, hysteretic anomalous Hall switching above the Curie temperature, arising from Fe─Mn interfacial exchange, enabling

Impact of a standardized reporting format on the quality of MRI reports for rectal cancer staging

open access: yesIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, 2020
Background and Aims: Besides providing a surgical roadmap, rectal MRI plays a major role in treatment planning. We recently started using a structured template for reporting rectal cancer via MRI.

Intrinsic Photoactive Star ZnPc–Poly(glutamate) Nanoplatforms for Multimodal Glioblastoma Therapy and Brain‐Targeted Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An intrinsic photoactive star‐shaped zinc phtalocyanine‐poly(L‐glutamic acid) (ZnPc‐PGA) nanoplatform for multimodal glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and brain‐targeted elivery. A ZnPc‐PGA‐based multifunctional theranostic nanocarrier platform enables image‐guided, multimodal GBM therapy. ZnPc‐PGA nanocarriers support the integration of fluorescence imaging,

X‐Functionality–Driven Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a water‐based synthesis of 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 perovskite microcrystals with prominent photocatalytic (PC) activity for H2 production. The synergy between organic functionalization and HI‐derived iodide scavenges holes suppress octahedral distortion, and favor electron accumulation, enabling a PC H2 evolution ∼20 µmol·g−1 and long‐term stability ...

Radiation induced apoptosis and initial DNA damage are inversely related in locally advanced breast cancer patients

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2010
Background DNA-damage assays, quantifying the initial number of DNA double-strand breaks induced by radiation, have been proposed as a predictive test for radiation-induced toxicity.

Solar radiation in the radio spectrum - I. Radiation from the quiet sun [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1948
Abstract The theory of the emission of thermal radiation from the solar envelope at radio-frequencies is worked out in detail. The Lorentz theory of absorption is used in conjunction with Kirchhoff’s law to derive the effective temperature of the various regions of the solar disk over the radio spectrum.
