Evolution of Radio Resource Management: A Case for Cognitive Resource Manager with VPI

2007 IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2007
The cognitive radio and cognitive wireless networks paradigms are interesting candidates for the next generation self-organizing and self-reconfigurable wireless networks. In this paper we argue that the concept of cognitive resource manager as an evolution of the classical radio resource manager in the cellular networks is a promising concept to ...

QoE Prediction for Radio Resource Management

2011
In this paper, we introduce a monitoring tool which measures application-specific parameters. These parameters are used to predict the QoE and to perform resource management based on QoE thresholds. We demonstrate the tool for YouTube traffic in an IEEE 802.11 mesh network.

A Perspective on Radio Resource Management in B3G

2006 3rd International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems, 2006
Beyond 3G usually refers to heterogeneous scenarios where different radio access technologies (RATs) coexist and operate in a coordinated way. This brings a new challenge to offer services to the users over an efficient and ubiquitous radio access. In this way, the user can be served through the RAT that fits better to the terminal capabilities and ...

Agile Radio Resource Management Techniques for 5G New Radio

IEEE Communications Magazine, 2017
The seven articles in this special section focus on agile radio resource management technologies for use in 5G mobile communications (5G). 5G networks will support a wide range of frequency bands, features, and use cases, with native support for efficient operation. 5G is considered as a significant disruptor to traditional mobile networks. Some of the

Evolutionary algorithms for radio resource management in cognitive radio network

2009 IEEE 28th International Performance Computing and Communications Conference, 2009
Cognitive radio (CR) technology employing dynamic spectrum access (DSA) improves spectrum utilization by exploiting its unused portions and provides a solution to the apparent spectrum scarcity problem. In this paper we present binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) for radio resource management (RRM) in OFDMA-based ...

Computing and Radio Resource Management Interactions in Flexible Radio Environments

2007 IEEE 18th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 2007
Due to the wireless industry tendencies, different radio access technologies will coexist in a heterogeneous environment. Software defined radio, as a concept that tries to provide flexibility, might ease the integration of that environment. The goal of this work is to introduce the concept of computing resource management, that working in cooperation ...

Radio resource management in LTE femtocell networks

2017 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Network Computing and Applications (NCA), 2017
In wireless network system the resources are limited. Therefore, managing resources is considered as a challenging task. The resource are distributed among attached UEs, so allocating resources needs to be well controlled. Packet scheduler in LTE network is responsible for assigning resources to attached UEs.

Prioritized radio resource management in WiMax networks

2012 International Conference on Communications and Information Technology (ICCIT), 2012
A priority scheme is proposed to assign radio resources to mobile terminals from classes with different QoS requirements. Using existing algorithms, the pertinent parameters were chosen to achieve some level of service differentiation. In the current setup, three classes were considered with generic statistical characteristics, and basic service ...

Radio Resource Management with MDP

2004
The GC scheme was proved by Ramjee et al.[6] to be optimal for an objective function formed by a linear weighting of the new call blocking and the handoff dropping probabilities. However, the GC scheme is not optimal for multiple traffic classes. In order to achieve better QoS, it is necessary to have a stochastic control policy.

Radio Resource Management via Spectrum Trading

VTC Spring 2008 - IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, 2008
The growth in the deployment of wireless systems and technologies shows that in this rapidly evolving and expanding environment, radio resource management (RRM) is fast becoming the most significant aspect in the provisioning of quality of service (QoS) for wireless networks.
