Cartographing of "spots" of radioactive pollution

open access: yesNuclear and Radiation Safety, 2018
The methodology was proposed and the algorithm was developed for mapping and delineating the "spots" of radioactive contamination territory by the 137Cs. The methodology is based on the principle of multi-stage (successive approximations) widely used in geological surveys.

The Impact of Genetic Polymorphisms on Genotoxicity (DNA Damage) Among Children Exposed to Environmental Mutagens: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Children, as a particularly vulnerable group, are more susceptible to these mutagens due to their developing immune systems, higher physiological vulnerability, and increased exposure through behaviors like outdoor play and hand‐to‐mouth activities. This review aims to investigate the relationship between these environmental exposures, genetic

BioRadBase: A database for bioremediation of radioactive waste

open access: yes, 2015
Radioactive waste from different sectors such as nuclear energy, health care and food has become a discernible part of our environment. Several dumping methods are in routine practice to dispose radioactive wastes.

Anisotropic Swelling of a Single‐Crystalline Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework Induced by Iodine Vapor Uptake

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A single crystal of a layered hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) undergoes iodine uptake‐induced anisotropic swelling via adsorption into void channels and intercalation into the layers. ABSTRACT In this paper, we report that iodine vapor adsorption induces anisotropic swelling of a porous hydrogen‐bonded framework (HOF) composed of hexacarboxylic

Forgoing Nuclear: Nuclear Power Plant Closures and Carbon Emissions in the United States

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the effect of nuclear power plant decommissioning on electricity generation and carbon emissions in the United States. Using data on nuclear reactor closures in the United States between 1993 and 2022 and data on state‐level carbon emissions and electricity generation from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), this ...

Microporous Self-Assembled Pd(II) Tetrahedral Cages for Rapid and Reversible Multi-Phase Sequestration of Iodine and Methyl Iodide. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall
This work reports a family of microporous, self‐assembled tetrahedral coordination cages that efficiently capture iodine, polyiodides, and methyl iodide from vapor, aqueous, and organic media. The cages display exceptional uptake capacities, rapid kinetics, and high selectivity, enabling the first dynamic vapor‐phase iodine capture by coordination ...

Scale‐aware impact modelling for atmospheric releases of radioactive material

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
Since the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in 2011, the UK has developed the process of Joint Agency Modelling (JAM), which provides advice to government in case of atmospheric releases of radioactive material. The timely deployment of JAM requires a prior estimate of the extent to which impacts could reach. Thus, to develop a fast pre‐calculator

EU Space Law and Earth's Boundaries: Integrating Environmental Impact Assessment and Corporate Due Diligence

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The European Union's proposed Space Law aims to establish a unified approach for sustainable space activities across the EU. While the EU's satellite constellations contribute to sustainability efforts, they can also have negative environmental impacts.

The role of iron in normal and impaired testicular function

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Iron plays a critical role in testicular physiology, impacting spermatogenesis, testosterone production, and overall testicular function. Iron homeostasis is maintained through systemic and cellular regulatory mechanisms, including hepcidin‐mediated systemic iron control and the iron‐responsive element/iron regulatory protein (IRE/IRP) system ...

Radiocaesium in mosses from the Kopački rit Nature Park in Croatia: searching for undeclared releases from nuclear facilities in war-torn Ukraine

open access: yesArhiv za Higijenu Rada i Toksikologiju
The invasion of Ukraine and military operations around Ukrainian nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities have prompted us to search for radiocaesium in mosses from the Kopački Rit Nature Park in Croatia, since mosses are known bioindicators of ...
