Radioactive pollution

Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Section B. Biological Sciences, 1987
SynopsisThe meaning to be assigned to “pollution” is discussed and an account given of the “natural” sources of radiation. The effects of radiation on human populations are described. The artificial sources of radiation in the environment associated with energy productions are reviewed.

Radioactive Pollution

2002
Radiation that, on passage through matter, produces ions by knocking electrons out of their orbits is called ionizing radiation. This radiation is produced through decomposition of unstable, naturally occurring or synthetic elements referred to as radionuclides. The four types of radiation are ∝-particles, β-particles, γ-rays, and neutrons.

Radioactive factors in water pollution

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1962
AbstractThis paper is primarily concerned with the introduction of radionuclides into bodies of water as a result of nuclear reactor operations. When radioactive materials are dispersed in surface waters, several factors such as water usage and biological concentration in human food chains must be considered.

Radioactive pollutant determinations using gamima-ray spectroscopy*

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1978
Qualitative and quantitative determination of radionuclide contamination in environmental samples is often complicated by the presence of uranium- and thorium-series radioelements as well as 40K. High resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy with lithium-drifted germanium detectors provides a method for the determination of man-made radio-nuclide contaminants
