AbstractMany methods of labeling liposomes with both diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides have been developed since the initial discovery of liposomes 40 years ago. Diagnostic radiolabels can be used to track nanometer‐sized liposomes in the body in a quantitative fashion.

There is little doubt that atomic energy will assume an important role in our civilization, and it is appropriate that future possible hazards should be evaluated. At the present time, it can be concluded that there is no reason for any change in our nutritional habits or food technology as a result of fall-out contamination.

SINCE the discovery of the radioactivity of samarium by Hevesy and Pahl in 19321, several experimenters have examined the emitted radiations in detail2. It is well established that the main radiation consists of I±-particles of range 1.13 ± 0.02 cm., and the experiments of Wilkins and Dempster3 indicate that these particles are emitted by the isotope ...

The purpose of this chapter is to show how to assess the detriment resulting from the release of radioactive materials to the environment. Because of the wide range of the subject and the limitation of space the chapter consists of little more than a listing of principles and concepts.

On Earth many nuclei are unstable, and they can reach a more stable configuration through radioactive decays. These nuclei are indicated as radioactive due to their emission of nuclear radiations. Depending on the emitted particles they are classified as alpha, beta, and gamma decays.

Papers reviewed herein present a general overview of radioactive waste activities around the world in 2014. These include safety assessments, decommission and decontamination of nuclear facilities, fusion facilities, transportation and management solutions for the final disposal of low and high level radioactive wastes (LLW and HLW), interim storage ...

Diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals are administered to provide information rather than to induce pharmacologic response. Therefore, one cannot translate pharmacologic principles established for stable compounds directly to radioactive compounds. If radioactive materials are to be used safely and effectively, certain principles must be followed.
