Radiocarbon Age of a Nevada Mummy

Science, 1965
Skin tissue, bone collagen, and vegetal clothing from a well-preserved Indian mummy from a dry cave in Nevada have been analyzed radiochemically. The age is about 2500 years; the ages obtained for the various samples were in close agreement.

Radiocarbon Age-Determinations From Lignotubers

Australian Journal of Botany, 1988
Large plate-like lignotubers formed by Eucalyptus botryoides Sm. were examined at a site on the south coast of New South Wales. Circumstantial evidence suggests that they are of great antiquity, yet 14C activity measurements of samples taken from lignotubers or associated stump wood corresponded to young ages, and it is clear that low durability of ...

The Radiocarbon Method of Age Determination

American Antiquity, 1956
Five years after the first publication of age measurements by the radiocarbon method (Arnold and Libby 1951) the method has been established as a powerful technique in the study of archaeology. Lists of radiocarbon dates have been published by a number of laboratories (Libby 1951, 1952, 1954, 1955; Kulp 1951, 1952; Broecker and Kulp 1956; Suess 1954 ...

New Zealand radiocarbon age measurements — 6

New Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, 1971
Abstract This list includes dating determinations of the New Zealand Carbon Dating Laboratory and is a continuation of the previous reports by Fergusson and Rafter 1953, 1955, 1957, 1959 and Grant-Taylor and Rafter 1962. The previous lists have been collated by Grant-Taylor and Rafter 1963. Unlike past lists the N.Z.

Radiocarbon ages of humic substances in chernozems

Eurasian Soil Science, 2008
Data on radiocarbon ages of different fractions of humus (humic acids, fulvic acids, and humin) in the profiles of chernozems are analyzed. A chronoecological grouping of humus in modern and buried (fossil) soils is suggested. An increase in the radiocarbon age of humic substances down the soil profile has a stepwise character. It is shown that the 14C

Radiocarbon Age of the Damariscotta Shell Heaps

American Antiquity, 1957
The large oyster shell heaps on both sides of the Damariscotta River, just north of the towns of Damariscotta and Newcastle, Maine, have been known for many years and both geologists and archaeologists have speculated about their age. During the summer of 1955 I made 2 collections of Mya shells from the largest shell heap on the west side of the river (

Age determination by the radiocarbon method

1999

Radiocarbon ages of sediment: Great barrier reef

Sedimentary Geology, 1969
Abstract Sedimentary material from the floor of the Queensland continental shelf, as well as beach-rock and reef-rock from inner and marginal shelf reefs of the Great Barrier Reef, have been dated by 14 C methods. The results confirm previous evidence of relict facies on the shelf but do not lend support to the view that lithified surfaces of inner ...
