We introduce a titration‐based method to explore the early stages of the crystallization of small organic molecules with carboxylic acid functions in water. It enables the determination of fundamental physicochemical characteristics (pKa values and solubilities) and the quantitative study of prenucleation, nucleation, and early postnucleation stages ...

Dynamics of 137Cs uptake from water to Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio)
The rate constants of 137Cs uptake in Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio) from the water with a potassium content of 2 mg·L-1 at T = 5 °C without feeding (kw = 0.045 ± 0.001 day-1), at T = 12 °C with «clean» feeding (0.046 ± 0.002 day-1) and at T = 22 °C ...

THE RADIOECOLOGY OF A BEACH [PDF]
The accumulation of fission products, especially the insoluble radionuclides Ru106, Cc144, Zr95, and Nb95, by the fauna and flora on Windscale Beach is affected by the following factors: 1) the particle size and chemical composition of the substratum; 2) wind action on contaminated silt lifting it from near low‐water mark and depositing it near high ...

Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS) combined with thermodynamic modeling provides the first direct characterization of radium speciation in synthetic gastrointestinal biofluids. Free Ra2+ ions predominate with minimal protein binding and negligible EDTA complexation. Crown ethers enable effective Ra complexation.

Inter-Taxa Differences in Iodine Uptake by Plants: Implications for Food Quality and Contamination
Although iodine is not essential for plants, they take it up readily and, in foodchains, are significant sources of iodine for organisms with an essential requirement for it. During several nuclear accidents radioiodine has been an important component of

Uranium and Neptunium Accumulation by the Byssus of Mytilus galloprovincialis
Investigation of uranyl(VI) and neptunyl(V) uptake in mussel's byssus by combining in vivo bioaccumulation with ex vivo isotherms. Data highlight the role of DOPA‐rich mfp proteins in binding both actinyl cations and partial Np(V) reduction. Such data link molecular interactions to radionuclide uptake in the framework of marine radioecology.
