High temperature syntheses of novel nitrido- and oxonitrido-silicates and sialons using rf furnaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The high-temperature reaction of pure metals with silicon diimide Si(NH)2 in a specially developed radiofrequency furnace has been successfully applied to the synthesis of novel highly condensed nitridosilicates.

Impedance‐Matched High‐Overtone Thickness‐Shear Bulk Acoustic Resonators With Scalable Mode Volume

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bottom‐electrode‐free high‐overtone bulk acoustic resonator is achieved by lateral excitation of antisymmetric thickness‐shear modes on a lithium‐niobate‐on‐silicon platform. Planar electrode geometry eliminates conventional loading along the resonance path and confines acoustic energy within the electrode gap.

The debate between electricity and heat, efficacy and safety of irreversible electroporation and radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of liver cancer: A meta-analysis

open access: yesOpen Life Sciences
Both irreversible electroporation (IRE) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are viable ablation methods for localized treatment of liver tumors. We conducted a meta-analysis to access the efficacy and safety of IRE and RFA in liver cancer treatment ...

Permanent atrial fibrillation ablation surgery in patients with advanced age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: Even if permanent atrial fibrillation (pAF) is a frequent concomitant problem in patients undergoing open heart surgery and particularly in those with advanced age, data of pAF ablation surgery in older aged patients are scarce.

Surgical Outcomes and Recurrence Management in Borderline Resectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Implications for Multidisciplinary Strategies

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Multivariate analysis identified that up‐to‐7 out (p < 0.001), lymph node metastasis (p < 0.001), and non‐anatomical resection (p = 0.02) were independent predictors of cancer recurrence, while older age (p = 0.01), Child‐Pugh B (p < 0.001), up‐to‐7 out (p = 0.01), macrovascular invasion (p = 0.01), and lymph node metastasis (p < 0.001) were ...

Management Strategies for Disappearing Colorectal Liver Metastases After Systemic Chemotherapy: Long‐Term Outcomes and Preoperative Prediction of ‘True Complete Response’

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Determining whether to resect disappearing liver metastases (DLMs) after chemotherapy for colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs) remains challenging. Methods Patients who underwent hepatectomy after systemic chemotherapy for initially unresectable CRLMs were reviewed. True complete response (CR) was defined as either resected DLMs with
