Radioactive and Radiogenic Isotopes

2016
Abstract Radioactive and radiogenic isotopes are chronometers and source tracers in the ocean. A radioactive isotope of a given element has a constant probability per unit time (the time constant) to decay into a radiogenic isotope of another element.

Radiogenic isotope research

Reviews of Geophysics, 1975
The research effort in this field over the past 4 years has been exciting and extremely productive. The review of the literature presented here covers three main areas of research: extraterrestrial geochronology, terrestrial geochronology, and the rapidly growing field of isotopic tracer applications to problems of petrogenesis.

Radiogenic Isotope Geochemistry

2016
Isotopes provide important information on many geological processes, with key relevance to the mining and petroleum industries, yet the techniques to obtain, process and interpret the data can be complex to master. This accessible book provides broad coverage of radiogenic isotopes in geochronology and geochemistry, explaining the basic principles and ...

Radiogene Isotope in der Umweltforschung

1997

Radiogenic isotopes in fluid inclusions

Lithos, 2001
Abstract Radiogenic isotopes studied in fluid inclusions are still a limited field, with great potential for expansion as analytical techniques improve. The main limitation for Sr, Ar and He isotope work is the very small number of radiogenic atoms produced in a typical fluid inclusion. The requirements to analysts are correspondingly high.

Radiogenic Isotope Geology

2005
The third edition of Radiogenic Isotope Geology examines revolutionary changes in geochemical thinking that have occurred over the past fifteen years. Extinct-nuclide studies on meteorites have called into question fundamental geochemical models of the Earth, while new dating methods have challenged conventional views of Earth history. At the same time,

Radiogenic and Stable Isotopes, Fluid Inclusions

2019
Samarium and Nd isotope data are used to provide information on the source of melts, as well as to determine the age of the rocks. Several samples yield extreme high 147Sm/144Nd ratios of >0.3, indicating extreme fractionation of the REE. This is also reflected in their calculated present day eNd values of eNdt = 0 at >40.0.

Production and Distribution of Radiogenic Isotopes

2012
At present, more than 20 long-lived radioisotopes of heavy elements are known to exist in the Earth’s crust. These are evidence of the gigantic processes which resulted in the formation of chemical elements in our galaxy. The main characteristics of these elements are shown in Table 16.1.

Sources of oceanic basalts: Radiogenic isotopic evidence

Geology, 1985
Oceanic basalts can be subdivided into five distinct groupings on the basis of their Sr, Nd, and Pb isotope composition. These classes, represented by mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORB) and St. Helena, Kerguelen, the Society Islands, and the Hawaiian Islands, may represent different but internally heterogeneous mantle reservoirs or merely distinct groups ...
