Derivation and validation of the Pediatric Community‐Acquired Pneumonia Severity (PedCAPS) score: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Community‐acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a frequent and costly cause of pediatric emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations. Previous prognostic tools for CAP are limited by small samples, single‐center or retrospective designs, lack of generalizability to ED settings, lack of biomarkers, or limited objective data.

Analysis of Upper Airway Morphology Using Four‐Dimensional Dynamic MRI With Active Deep Learning‐Based Automatic Segmentation

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Upper‐airway morphology changes during breathing can be captured with cine 4D MRI. Active‐learning nnU‐Net reduces manual labeling while maintaining accuracy. Purpose For automatic upper airway segmentation on free‐breathing cine 4D MRI using active learning and quantifying dynamic changes under two mouth positions.

Enhancement for computed radiographic images

Proceedings Eighth IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems, 2002
Proposes an image enhancement algorithm that converts raw data from a storage phosphor scanner into a diagnostically optimized image. The spatial segmentation algorithm is applied to extract the body part of a clinical image, and histogram analysis is then used to develop the tone-scale for the region of interest.

Digital techniques for image enhancement of radiographs

International Journal of Bio-Medical Computing, 1971
Abstract This paper deals with digital, position variant and invariant linear and nonlinear techniques for image enhancement (Rozenfeld, 1969). The radiographic system, the image processing and display system, and the human visual system are discussed.

Refraction Effects of Diffraction-Enhanced Radiographic Imaging

Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 2004
The objective of this study was to demonstrate the ability of a novel radiographic technology—diffraction-enhanced imaging—to detect contrast in bone tissue through absorption, refraction, and scatter rejection. Diffraction-enhanced imaging uses a synchrotron x-ray beam to produce images of high contrast by measuring the object’s refraction and ultra ...

A Method of Radiographic Image Quality Enhancement

2013 Fifth International Conference on Measuring Technology and Mechatronics Automation, 2013
The quality of the image is one of the important influential factors in the process of defect evaluation of weld radiographic image. To improve the brightness and contrast of digital image of weld radiographic film, a new quality enhancement method in accordance with human visual system is proposed.

Linear Spatial Frequency Filtering for Enhancement of Radiographic Images

Radiology, 1972
Abstract One-dimensional mathematical models were used to investigate the ability of a Wiener filter, a modified Wiener filter, a simple matched filter, and an optimal matched filter to improve radiographic detection. Selective enhancement was not possible.

Enhancing Dental Radiographic Images in Spline-Type Spaces

2014 16th International Symposium on Symbolic and Numeric Algorithms for Scientific Computing, 2014
The aim of this paper is to propose a method to enhance the acquisition resolution of dental radiographic images to facilitate the clinical examination and interpretation. The algorithm is based on the approximation properties of spline-type spaces with multiple generators. These spaces are obtained by applying a discrete group of translation operators
