A new approach for locating the minor apical foramen using an artificial neural network [PDF]
Aim To develop a new approach for locating the minor apical foramen (AF) using feature‐extracting procedures from radiographs and then processing data using an artificial neural network (ANN) as a decision‐making system.

Effect of dose reduction in digital dental panoramic radiography on image quality
OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of dose reduction in digital panoramic radiography on subjective image quality and diagnostic performance. METHODS Two digital panoramic radiographs were obtained with the Orthophos DS(Sirona, Bensheim, Germany) of patients (n=100) receiving dental care. The first image was taken at the standard exposure setting.

Digital image ratio: a new radiographic method for quantifying changes in alveolar bone.Part 1: theory and methodology [PDF]
International audienceA new method, digital image ratio (DIR), has been developed for directly measuring changes in alveolar bone. The image on the computer monitor represents the relative mass change between two radiographs. Fourier filtering is used to

Near-infrared imaging of demineralization on the occlusal surfaces of teeth without the interference of stains. [PDF]
Most new caries lesions are found in the pits and fissures of the occlusal surface. Radiographs have extremely low sensitivity for early occlusal decay, and by the time the lesion is severe enough to appear on a radiograph, it typically has penetrated ...

A Technique for Standardized Evaluation of Soft and Hard Peri-Implant Tissues in Partially Edentulous Patients [PDF]
Background: There is a growing need to evaluate the esthetics of implant-supported crowns and bridges. An important tool for such an evaluation is standardized assessment of the soft and hard peri-implant tissue levels.
