From cells to reefs—fluorescent protein distribution reveals species‐specific photoadaptation in closely related Caribbean corals

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Fluorescent proteins (FPs) are diverse and widespread pigments in reef‐building corals, assumed to modulate the internal light microenvironment within coral tissues. Yet, their precise distribution and organization at the tissue and cellular levels remain poorly understood, limiting our understanding of their functional roles.

Carbon source and weather in coastal North Carolina

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The increasing frequency of extreme weather events, including tropical cyclones, is altering the delivery and quality of organic matter (OM) exported from landscapes to estuaries. However, the mechanisms regulating these shifts, especially during multi‐year climatic oscillations, remain poorly understood.

Enhancing Photostability of All‐Inorganic Perovskites via Natural Antioxidant Passivation for High‐Performance Fluorescent Sensors

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
Natural lycopene is proposed to passivate the surface defects of all‐inorganic CsPbBr3, preventing ultaviolet (UV) light influence. Treated CsPbBr3 has a low defect level and exhibits excellent UV stability. Extension of this strategy to CsPb(Br0.5Cl0.5)3 enables the fabrication of a dual‐channel UV fluorescence sensor with good performance.

Mapping Quartz and Feldspar Areal Abundance and Grain Sizes Using Integrated VTIR Data

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Mineral dust is sourced from arid regions around the globe, and its composition impacts regional and global environments by affecting radiation balance, cloud formation, nutrient deposition, and snowmelt. As such, mineral dust plays a key role in Earth's energy and biogeochemical budgets.

Nitric Oxide Intensification Associated With STEVE: TIMED/SABER‐REGO Observations and Comparison With GITM Simulation

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement (STEVE) is a nightsky optical phenomenon of great research interest in recent years. STEVE is recognized to be co‐located with a latitudinally narrow channel of fast westward ion drifts, also known as “subauroral ion drifts” (SAID).
